freerepublic | Feb. 5, 2016 | greeneyes

Posted on 02/05/2016 2:49:23 PM PST by greeneyes

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won't be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Would you believe it’s going to be 74 degrees today and tomorrow and Saturday???? Summer is back for a few days.
Saturday will be plant potato and English pea day, Swiss Chard at the Community Garden. OH and garlic. Here at the house we’ll be doing Swiss Chard, radishes and salad greens etc.

LOL. The choices are so like him. Thanks for sharing this uplifting story - a good reminder of Johnny for sure.

I should really plant some pots of spinach and lettuce for early produce as they can be easily moved in and out of the house, but first I have to get caught up with other stuff.

In Ohio? That’s a surprise that he has enough grass to mow-what kind is it-do you know?

That bug-really made me weak, and it took longer than I thought it should to get some energy back. Guess that’s because I’m not a spring chicken-it’s a big surprise every time I look in the mirror-looks nothing like my high school pictures. LOL

My closets have not had a good cleaning since the 1980s. It’s always a lick and a promise. I did manage to get my small 2ft. pantry closet in the basement converted to chemicals, and garden stuff, since hubby built me a 12 ft. long storage wall/shelving unit next to the basement stairs.

I guess if I take one room and closet per year, I might get them all done before I get old again.

Hubby started looking at seed catalogs today. His complaint is that there are too many choices, and not much indication as to which do the best in Mo.

We do have the MU extension guide, but that doesn’t have much on heirlooms.

I hope someone can answer this- I have no idea. I have never eaten one, though I have heard of them. Never seen one in our limited grocery.

Thanks for sharing that picture. It is good to be handy with engines and stuff. Hubby is not, and he gets frustrated trying to find anyone to fix stuff here.

No idea what kinda grass it is. He keeps putting chemicals on it. He hates my lawn, which is pretty much God’s green weeds! I think he may have just missed the last Fall cut.

They have a unique taste and are awesome pureed as soup or fried/roasted. They grow like weeds and keep in the ground for a long time. I’m trying to rehydrate some dried ones and see if they can still grow.
