The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won't be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

I'm still getting ready for the commercial tomato patch experiment. I've got a good start on my application for organic certification, and what I'm hoping will be the last shop project of the winter has been started.

Pops and I pulled my Nephew's 1950 Farmall C model tractor out of the barn last weekend and moved it into my shop for a tune-up. It doesn't look like much but it runs like a scalded dog. Many years ago I did a po' boy overhaul on the old beast and almost doubled the horsepower that it developed when it was new. Nephew won a lot of trophies at competitive tractor pulling contests with this thing over the years.

The fuel tank is back from a professional clean-out at the radiator shop. Pops dropped the carburetor off at the fix-it shop today to be de-tuned for normal operation. I replaced all of the primary wiring for ignition and charging systems after work today.

Tomorrow I need to acquire a new ammeter, ignition switch, fuel tank sediment bowl and a few other piddly parts at the NAPA store. I'll have it ready to fire up by the time the carburetor is done.

I'll be using it for drawbar work in the tomato patch. Spreading manure and pulling a trailer at harvest time, etc.

Keep us posted on your progress as I’m a bit of a gear head myself. Haven’t been on a Farmall since I cultivated cotton in 1950 near Fresno Ca.

that’s what I do....leaves,soil from potted plants, manure..anything that will add to the soil...

I’ve got a couple more retired antique pullers stashed away in the barn. A 1949 model Case VAC and a 1946 model Minneapolis-Moline R.

Soon as the carburetor comes back from the fix-it shop this old girl will be back up and running.

That’s a slick old John Deere. Pops had a model G for a few years when I was a kid. These days the only time there’s a green tractor on the place is when my neighbor Dave comes over to bale my hay field.

I got slightly ambitious here today. Pops came over and helped me push in the last dozen t-posts for the new fence in the back pasture. Now all that’s left of that project is to pull the wire and hang the gate.

Then while Mrs. Augie was delivering #1 Marine Daughter Leah to the airport for her flight back to San Diego I pruned my nectarine tree.

Now I’m ready for some couch time.

My friend bought this Ford 8N with a 62 Buick 215 ci engine at a auction in Sacramento. It's a great parade vehicle

STRANGE HAPPENING - THEN IT BECAME CLEAR I received the magazine, "Shape", in November. I did not order that magazine and thought it was probably a freebie that company wanted me to buy. I received another one in December, and wondered why that happened. In January, I received that magazine again and later that month, also received the "Cosmopolitan" magazine. I did not order that, either.

Yesterday, I went to those magazines separately on line and I had an account number that was the same on both websites. Those magazines are paid for and will not expire for TWO YEARS.

JRandomFreeper, Johnny, paid for those magazines for two years. JOHNNY WILL BE AT MY HOUSE TWICE A MONTH FOR TWO YEARS. Yes, I cried when I realized he did this.

He bought the "Shape" magazine in October, two days after my birthday. He bought the "Cosmopolitan" magazine in December, for a Christmas gift.

No, he did not tell me he did this. He wanted it to be a surprise and it certainly was and I will have him in my house twice a month for two years. That is so like Johnny.

I wanted all of you to know what he did.

Johnny was a great guy. I still can't believe that he's really gone. He was so full of life, with what seemed to be an inexhaustible supply of energy and enthusiasm. This quote seems appropriate:

Thanks for sharing this, Marcella. What a neat thing for Johnny to do .... a reminder from him that he’s smiling down on you & once the magazines run out, he’ll still be smiling.

Marcella that is so nice. You are right he is smiling. Love never dies and he will be remembered by many including me for a long long time. Just this morning I took care of arranging a Mass for him in our parish. Thanks for sharing this Marcella and take care.

Exactly true !
When he was knowingly in his own latter days on earth ,
he was still thinking of others .
"That is so like Johnny " ~ Yup !..
and I too miss him and his thoughtful comments, and continue to think of him , often , too .
