King Tutankhamun's tomb: Evidence grows for hidden chamber
bbc ^

Archaeologist Nicholas Reeves believes Tutankhamun's remains may have been rushed into an outer chamber of what was originally Queen Nefertiti's tomb.

The remains of Tutankhamun, who may have been her son, were found in 1922. He died 3,000 years ago aged 19.

...

Dr Reeves developed his theory after the Spanish artistic and preservation specialists, Factum Arte, were commissioned to produce detailed scans of Tutankhamun's tomb.

The scans were then used to produce a facsimile of the 3,300-year-old tomb near the site of the original Valley of the Kings in Luxor.

While assessing the scans last February, Dr Reeves spotted what he believed were marks indicating where two doorways used to be.

The archaeologist from the University of Arizona says he believes Nefertiti may lie inside.

Tutankhamun's tomb was the most intact ever discovered in Egypt. Close to 2,000 objects were found inside.

But its layout has been a puzzle for some time - in particular, why it was smaller than those of other kings' tombs.

Tomography. There are several different types but I’d think one could get a measurement of density in several directions to indicate voids or less or more dense ground.

I thought I saw a TV special on testing of a mummy to see if it was Nefertiti. And the conclusion was....

I visited King Tuts tomb some years back, it is quite small,

I asked one of the guides if there was any possibility of an undiscovered chamber or hidden tomb, his response was an immediate and emphatic no ‘we know of all the Kings’ or something to that effect, which just confirmed to me all I suspected,

I just smiled and nodded back,

the first thing they should do after drilling the hole is to take an air sample. I believe this to be standard procedure for ancient sealed burial chambers.

of course, they should get ready to scatter should some bloodsucking black scarab beetles appear... :-)

"Could a quick application of ground penetrating radar answer the question?"

~~~~~~~~~
RTFA!
"Clearly it does look from the radar evidence as if the tomb continues, as I have predicted," Mr Reeves said at a press conference with the Egyptian Antiquities Minister Mamdouh al-Damati on Saturday, AFP reports.
"The radar, behind the north wall [of Tutankhamun's burial chamber] seems pretty clear. If I am right it is a continuation - corridor continuation - of the tomb, which will end in another burial chamber," he said.
Yeah, that may have been that ridiculous Discovery Channel fiasco about the UK hairdresser's loony claims, which were actually (ahem) borrowed from another woman. The only reason there was no lawsuit about it was, the Discovery Channel crockumentary lost money.
May be better to leave it lie for a later generation that won’t allow Muslims to destroy whatever’s in there.
It always puzzles me to read articles like this. It seems to me that just hinting at the possibility of a new tomb near the location of a known one would be enough to bring the grave robbers out.
