Here's the Real Reason Why So Many Women are Single
Mic ^ | 09/16/2015 | Kate Hakala

Posted on 09/21/2015 6:14:44 AM PDT by BJ1

"I know lots of single men," Cara, 26, a resident of Brooklyn, New York, told Mic. "It's just... most are of little or no interest to me as anything other than a hookup."

Tired of old ways: The somewhat revolutionary notion that women are actually deciding not to marry is something that wouldn't be possible if the value of marriage itself hadn't changed drastically over the years.

"When women's life choices were highly constrained, they had little negotiating power," Pepper Schwartz, a sociology professor at the University of Washington, wrote for CNN. "They had to marry or were seen as damaged ... It's different now. While most women still want marriage, they don't want it at just any price. They don't want it if it scuttles their dreams."

That, in part, is due to marriage no longer being a must for women's social and financial standing. "I don't think hookup culture is damning for long-term commitment," Lisa, 27, said. "I think it's a response to the large obsolescence of marriage as an institution for women. We don't need to be economically or socially dependent on men."

That carries out through the numbers. Compared to their grandparents' generation, millennial women are significantly more likely to have a bachelor's degree and be a part of the labor force.

"I think a lot of us just don't think marriage is that important because it doesn't offer the security it once did," Norah, 27, told Mic. "It's not as necessary anymore because I can work. I can support myself."

....

It's not that there aren't enough men to explain waning marriage stats — there also aren't enough women who want to walk down the aisle.

I wasn’t complaining. I was instructing our fine women how to improve their chances.

the topic is women being alone, or not finding Mr Right, and that to me is not so much a function of their sexual pasts as it is a general function of their very distorted view of men and relationships in general.

Absolutely correct.

Guys are guys, they can love a woman beyond measure and still wind up being accused of objectifying them or some other overly sensitive nonsense because the woman only has feminist dogma nonsense as her perspective. And I do agree many women miss a great life partner because they decide they aren’t ready for that yet in their life, because they are 28 and still have plans, only by the time they decide they are ready they are 38 or 43 and that guy found someone who was ready, as had most the other guys serious about building a life with someone.

Personally, I think anyone over 40, male or female who has never been married is going to be a tough person to wed, by that state in their lives, most folks are pretty set in their ways and if they have not had to compromise with other folks about their lives to that point its going to be a very difficult transition to married life where compromise and selflessness are required to make it work.

Spot on. I have seen that in DC.

Marriage is not compromise and selflessness. I speak from making the mistake once.

It is being willing to hold off marriage until you find a woman who is all you want who wants all you are.

The biggest lie is that a man should marry his own age. A man in his 40s, if he has finally established himself in a career...such as doctor/lawyer...he should not have an issue with marrying a woman half his age. Women lose their child bearing qualities as they age. If you do not want children, don’t marry.

Welfare disincentivizes [marriage].

Right you are. Back in the 60s, welfare workers actually made surprise visits to homes of single mothers claiming benefits, trying to catch a man in the home. They’d actually look in closets and under beds, searching for men’s clothes or shoes.
That isn’t done any more. The women live openly with baby daddy, but he and his income just aren’t included in paperwork.
A “low income” woman in our town got a new home, totally free courtesy of the taxpayer, for herself and 3 brats. Baby daddy is a long haul truck driver, makes good money. Parks his truck’s cab in the driveway when he’s home.

I have actually been soundly complained at when I suggested a girl marry the father of her second baby (first turned out to be a druggie, second had a job and clean record, best she’ll find in her situation).
They said they couldn’t afford to get married.
I said you could do it for a couple hundred in a church or $50 in front of a judge.
I was told how they’d lose out on SNAP, WIC, childcare help, etc, they can’t AFFORD to get married.

When it comes to them needing bed pans who will be there for them? No one speaking English.

Grandchildren of the 60’s. There is definitely a remnant somewhere of fine people but remember, the media is where the libs go. Those with self respect are busy raising their families.

The Bible says everything can be forgiven, except one sin - and no one I have ever talked to can even explain how you commit that sin (blasphemy against the Holy Spirit).

The one unforgivable sin is understandable from the context in which Jesus made that statement (Matthew 12:22-32). The Pharisees saw him casting out demons and said he did it by the power of Be-el'zebul the prince of demons. Therefore, the unforgivable sin is a sin of attribution: it is to see the work of God and tell people it is the work of the devil.

The one where the “marriage strike” by men has been a thing for like a decade now?

It's not a strike.

Men just look around at what's available, look at the costs and risks, and decide "Nah, not worth it".

Precisely. Look at that face in #119. Do you think anyone’s ever proposed to her or ever will? Not a chance.

She will never marry. She will never have children.

Her’s is the face of EXTINCTION.

You make an excellent point. There comes a time when the average unmarried guy really wants nothing to do with women his age. I am often in that position. I don’t date women my age because they’re looking for something romantic typically and I have absolutely no interest in the type of woman you just described. You’re correct.
