Dog has a mouthful of Ginsu knives.

It *is* carrying.

Dobies have “presence” is the best way I can describe it. The fact that they can and will take on the devil himself is evident in the way they walk, the way they look and carry themselves. They don’t have to do anything, just be.

Good looking lucky Dobie

My Rott just missed a huge blackie in Big Canoe Georgia last spring

Thank God

The behemoth traipsed out of the woods just as I put the dog back in the car not 20 yards from us

My male Rott is fearless and he woulda been mauled

It was a very big heavy set well fed Appalachin black muzzle black bear

400 pounds minimum....large for a southern mountain bear

No kidding you try to save your dog....whatever you got.....even my little munchkin wife would run for the pistol

Dobies are very appropriate for attacking humans

Maybe the best

I know a serious dog trainer was attacked by one...same exact DNA as yours and the one I had

91 stitches from biceps to forearm

If he hadn’t had choke collar he would been killed

He gave him a mild zap with training collar for aggression to other dogs and the boy gave him a brief stink eye and it was on

He found out later the dog was rejected for temperament but no one warned him

Dobie are smart and aim high on people with momentum and takedown for the throat....unusual

Our big Red coursed and take down a yearling buttonhead like nothing just to do it

But versus a big ursus they are outmatched physically unless you can throw several at them

Maybe a Caucasian or two would have a chance

But in the other hand black bear usually avoid dogs to be honest

They know dogs bring two leggers with metallic things that go boom

The AKC standard called it The Look Of Eagles.

So there ya go.

90% of my rescues were fuzzy bunnies who would only ‘do their job’ if dire circumstances required it.

No one was ever the wiser.

Things being what they are, these days, this time around, I went for European Dobes.

They can ‘just be’...or do.

[do be do be doooo]

:D

Apparently this particular bear was habituated to humans and their garbage bins.

Plus, I think it had cubs.

*Bad* combination, that.

People always rip on Pits but the fact is, Dobermanns are the *only* breed ever created solely for the purpose of going after humans.

[robbers and waylayers, to be exact]

Yet their statistics show that they are not a “problem dog”.

Of all the Dobe fatalities [few that there are] 99% of them were done in defense of their owners.

I am not seeing any downside, there.

Their natural bite method has to be ‘altered’ for ScH work because ‘naturally’, they bite/release/jump back/rush in/bite/release etc etc rather than the required ScH bite/hold.

And a good, square Dobe is incredibly agile and will do that with insane speed.

That kind of attack is nearly impossible to defend oneself against.

Kinda like having a 100 pound rattlesnake hit you over and over.

I know people who put up a beware of dog sign with a Dobe pic on it because thieves are extremely reluctant to hit a house with one inside.
PetCo can’t keep them in stock and there are not *that* many Dobes in the area.

Some ex-con who now does PSAs about burglary mentions them as the #1 “Aw hell no” breed.

But it’s my job to make sure there are not things like bears or cougars hanging about, that they *might* think they can handle.

Not worth the risk to my dogs.

I had bears come in my driveway on winter nights and tip over the huge garbage bin by my garage. Huge mess, bags torn and stuff strewn everywhere.

I finally went to WalMart and bought one of those 1 QT pump up sprayers and filled it with a large bottle of Wally’s Lousiana Hot Sauce and the rest with water. Spray the lid of the can and the sides every few days and I keep the sprayer hooked over the handle...I dose the bags once when there are a lot. I haven’t had a bear intrusion since then (except once when I didn’t spray the bin for a month.)

Not in namby-pamby suburbia, they don’t. They have no fear where “well, what do you expect when you live in the bear’s habitat?” is the prevailing opinion.

In my neck of the woods, good ol’ boys with hounds still put the fear of God in ol’ Yogi.

BO was lucky. One dog against a bear? The dog will always lose, the only thing that saved BO’s life was that he had sense enough to break and run.
I have seven boys and girls in my pack, none of them ever go outside alone.
Two years ago they (all 7 of them) treed a what turned out to be a 300 pound boar; I came tearing out of the house with my 338 and yelled at them to get away and get back to the house.
Just at that moment the bear came down the tree and tore into all seven of them, took 3 shots to put the bear down and 3100 dollars to get George and Honey stitched back together.
My farm is in pretty wild country (surrounded by National Forest) and I never work outside without my boys and girls there, and never unarmed.

I had a couple of uncles in northern Michigan who were avid bear and coon hunters and were frequently buying and trading dogs.

Fortunately one was also a vet so that cut down on potential vet bills for the injured ones.....

Those of with sight hounds are handy with needle and thread.

Thin skin, brambles and surly critters are a pesky combination.

Well; all I can say in my defense is, a person has to use the methods that apply to the job that needs doing.
Defending my boys and girls comes first, even above my own safety.
Property damage (there has been plenty of it), can be repaired, the orchard can be replanted, the fields can be replanted, the chickens can be replaced, but my boys and girls are FAMILY.
The order of precedence is as follows.
1: WIFE.
2: Children.
3: Boys & Girls.
4: Self.
5: Freedom.
6: All other good dogs.
7: property.
8: Marine Corps.
9:Good (in my opinion) people.
10: The rest of the so called human race.
GOD does not enter into the numerical order because GOD is every where, in every thing.
GOD/DOG, go figure!
