Hi,
I feel like I have relied on FR so much recently. Everything is breaking down around here. My husband checked himself into a hospital a couple of days ago; he needs heart bypass surgery.
My son and daughter are in the Gaspe peninsula visiting their grandmother. They will come back in a week, except my son will be stopping in Montreal to go to college.
Our house is falling apart; we have no exterior back wall and the insurance won't pay for it, that will cost $15K Canadian.
I am a lawyer in Colorado, but don't really know the ropes here in QC, especially in French.
I had my drivers license suspended for medical reasons; I am now on medication and should get it back soon. I have to, because my husband won't be allowed to drive after he has his surgery, which he won't have for another two weeks.
I just don't know what to do, except I do retreat to the feelings I have felt since I was fourteen... I was a "cutter" before it was cool. Over thirty years ago, I would walk from my law school dorm room in Chicago to the Walgreens... to buy razor blades. It felt so good to cut myself.
Now, all I can think about is finding those stupid keys for the gun locks that my husband put on his guns (he knows me too well).
I used to think I had something to contribute to the world. Now, I am not sure.
I called the hospital and I just wanted to go over there and sleep in a cot next to him, but I'm not allowed.
It's just me and my black Lab named Ellie.
Anyway, sorry to bother you all. Just wondered if anyone else here felt like this sometimes and what did you do about it?

I just had a friend and colleague kill himself this past Monday. He left a wife, kids, and a whole bunch of friends without him. Suicide might be your way out, but it is selfish since so many others need you.
I know. Suicide is the most selfish thing you can do. That is the only thing that has stopped me, so many times.
Don’t do that. A permanent solution to temporary problems.

It has just been so much to process recently.
There are no pros. Only cons.
Your husband needs you. Be there for him. Your lab needs you, too. Don’t let them down...
Don’t do it, for the sake of your children. It will ruin their lives.
This is a transient feeling, but not a transient issue. My advice is to get help asap. Talk to someone who can help, whether it is a counselor or a hotline or someone else. Call someone. Be connected. You may think you don’t want to ask for help, but this post is a request for help. Don’t take it lightly.
Don’t do it! The problems you cited are just temporary. Plenty of church groups that would love to come out and fix up your back wall. Call for help immediately.
I recommend that you start with Prayer.
Ask God to give you the strength to provide the help you and your family need.
Your body is a Temple of the Holy Spirit and it belongs to God.
It is not yours to destroy.
Do not lose faith and pray for God’s will.

You just step back, take a breath and then try to realize that is the most precious gift you’ve ever been given...and then do it again.
And if that doesn’t work call a suicide prevention line.
And you seem from those few lines like someone who is quite giving, I’d like to think that you wouldn’t want your final legacy to be one of an incomprehensibly selfish act.
Get help. Call a crisis line. Call 911. Go to a mental health facility. Suicide is not the answer.
If you can’t live for yourself, live for them. You are wanted and needed, and deep down, you know it.
My son committed suicide over 5 years ago, the hurt will never leave. Seek immediate medical attention! God loves you and would never want you to take your on life! God Bless, will be praying for you!

There is a reason they are called Man’s Best Friend. I need to ping Joe 6-pack! :) he has the dog list! :)
We are mostly Christian at Freerepublic. Suicide is a sin that can keep you from heaven. If you aren’t Christian then I think you should look at the evidence for it. I think Jesus can keep you safe.
We have all felt this way and thank God we are still here to help you as you will someday help others.
Nighttime is a time for sad thoughts. In the morning there will be new possibilities.
We need you to stay, think of how your lab needs you.
Get a good night’s rest and if you still feel this sad reach out for help to the police or a suicide hotline. You are too valuable to lose. Many many people will want to help you get through this.
