Just when it seemed the late-night landscape couldnt get more competitive, here comes Johnny Carson.
Tribune Medias Antenna TV, the multicast digital channel devoted to vintage television shows, will run full-length episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson nightly at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT starting Jan. 1.
Antenna TV has struck a multi-year deal with Carson Entertainment Group to license hundreds of hours of the NBC late-night institution. Antenna will run episodes that aired from 1972 through the end of Carsons 30-year reign in in 1992. Because NBC owns the rights to The Tonight Show moniker, Antenna TVs episodes will be billed simply as Johnny Carson.
This is not a clip show. This is full episodes of Johnny Carson, the man that everyone in late-night agrees was the greatest host of all time, airing in real time as he did back in the day, Sean Compton, Tribunes president of strategic programming and acquisitions, told Variety. Tuning in to The Tonight Show is like taking a walk down Main Street in Disneyland. The minute you step in there, you feel good and you know its a place you want to stay. We cannot wait to bring this show to fans who remember Carson and to a new generation of viewers who have never had the chance to see Johnny in his prime.

What channel is that on Direct TV ?
This is great news!
318, I believe.
Looking forward to it.
Weird, wild stuff! Ha!
I’m sorry, that’s Comcast, I don’t know what channel it would be on Direct. I have to get it through an antenna because Dish doesn’t carry it.
What dose Carnac the Magnificent predict about this event?
I always thought they should have struck the set and cancelled the show after Johnny’s last show but I guess NBC is too greedy for that to have happened.
Found it on some DIRECT systems. As with many interesting networks, it’s not on in my area.

That’ll,be great. It can fill in the gaps of stories people told about the early years
Please tell me we’ve gone back in time to about 1976.
Please.
From the antennaTV website, directTV has chosen not to carry their station as part of their local packages.
On the plus side, Cincinnati swept the NY Yankees in the World Series.
On the down side, we got Jimmuh Carter.
--My favorite Carson quote!
The Big Red Machine!
Arguably one of the best baseball teams in history.
Been a Reds fan my whole life.
Dippity Do.
What do you find on your dippity in the morning?
Sis. Boom. Bah.
What sound does an exploding sheep make?
The answer is “Serengetti Plains”
The Question: “How do most people eat their serengetti?”
HI-YO!!!
Carson was the absolute best. Even as a little kid, watching the Friday night show (I wasn’t allowed to stay up late on M-Thurs. to watch him), I loved it. Nobody has come close since, IMHO.
