A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

W00t!

She will rule the roost from up there, for sure!

It will soon be time for me to retire to the boudoir for the night. I hope I sleep well, though the barometer is telling me it will be a painful evening without the morphine. I hate using Ibuprofen on the heel of bleeding ulcers, but I have no choice.

Morphine will keep me awake until it is completely out of my system.

I hope you end up with a successful night. I need to go wash Frank. He’s even more than usually cruddy.

Odd to think of that cute pre-toddler as a cruddy kid...

Thanks for the wishes. I’m out of here.

(I think I counted 40 kittehs in that Covenantor post!)

I might make a much longer story from this eventually.

That’s a good one, too. Interesting the concept of Death BOTH affecting AND being affected by tangible objects; having the med tech open the door right in his face, for example.

Oh my, it’s good to see your screen name in my ping list, once again!

How am I these days?

Well, the short version is nothing we thought we were going to do ended up working out. We got the big house, moved in, did the in-law apartment, finished it out including a nice kitchen. Found out there were MULTIPLE fraudulent claims in the Disclosure Statement on the property. Launched a tort against the seller. Moved my F-I-L into the apartment. Got on OK until his initial conservator hearing Feb 2014. When he figured out we wouldn’t outright LIE, and agree to the outlandish notion that he was no longer in need of a guardian or conservator, he began to be increasingly belligerent and oppositional. He had more medical issues; in and out of the hospital. Screwed up his meds during the conservatorship hearing trip to Oregon, which let his BP get too high, which shot what was left of his kidney function, which landed him in the hospital with near-100% Renal Failure and on dialysis from then on. Bounced back into the hospital and out again a couple of times with other issues; the last time for more than a month to the tune of $1.1 MILLION, which MediCare forked over. Got into a nice Resident Care facility, met a total stranger on petpeoplemeet.com who helps him undermine the authority and duties of his guardian and conservator and whom he now believes to be his star witness at his upcoming November hearing during which will play out his pivotal challenge to the guardianship and conservatorship, which will bomb spectacularly against a mountain of evidence medical, neuropsychological, behavioral, and anecdotal (backed up with multiple police reports); after which we can only speculate that he will need to be put in a locked dementia ward to prevent him bringing further logistical harm to his health and welfare, which we expect will go over like lead balloons, and may precipitate his total refusal to ever go to dialysis, again, which will relegate him to a miserable, and painful demise at the cruel hands of his own increasingly toxic bloodstream; and — oh, by the way — the developing El Nino may very well mean we get flooded this winter, to boot; and THAT is merely the most brief of synopses.

Other than that, I’m peachy.

But how in this world have YOU been? Up on the Mogollon Rim someplace, are you? Anywhere near Show Low? Or further southeast?

THIS is probably my MOST favorite Roadrunner and Coyote cartoon of all, "There They Go-Go-Go." Wile E. has two of his most hilarious mishaps at the 3:20 and 3:30 points.

Enjoy!

Squee!!!

I need that this morning.

Not a good night, but I guess I’m lucky to get two out of five. *sigh*

I have to have the blood draw again this morning, but I’m not looking forward to it. If they had done it right the last time, I wouldn’t be going back and would also know whether or not I need a transfusion. Now, with being on iron two weeks, I would say the danger has passed.

The truck needs to be fixed ASAP, as I have several doctor appointments in Vegas this month, and if I have to have a transfusion, that means one more. It can be done elsewhere, but they have a center there that does nothing but transfusions. I’m almost at the point of tears as the raw gas smell is overwhelming me when I drive it, meaning I’m wasting gas in volumes. Not to mention making me physically ill.

Other than the blood draw, I have no real plans for the day. I made sloppy joes yesterday and will divide it into portions and freeze it with a bun and call it Work For The Day. Or something.

And I will try to get a little more done on my history. What fun.

LOL!

I have to take Tom to school this morning. Then I have another meeting at church. We have a looming crisis situation in a couple of committees. Hopefully the crisis can be diverted!

Then I have to pick Tom up at school.

I woke up tired and I got tireder when I read about your schedule. Maybe I can lie down after my shower. Maybe. I hate insomnia.

It’s been so hot I’m having problems sleeping too. A glass of milk before bed helps.and sometimes a Tylenol PM.

Feel better Face.

I’ll just be over here, at my accustomed work station, occasionally nodding off.

Coffee. Yes, coffee.

Tylenol ruined my liver, so I have to take Ibuprofen, but that messes with my stomach and I can’t take anything with naproxen in it. So I mostly just lie in bed and play Solitaire on my Nook.

Thanks for the wishes!

I’m going to go take a shower and maybe I’ll feel better when I get cleaned up. :o]

GAH!!!

I just answered the door to yet another aide, though this one was unannounced by the company. I am so freaking fed up with inept people I could scream.

To make it worse, I got a call a few minutes later from someone in the office who said they called last week. Not hardly. I would not have made plans for today if I had been told a new aide was coming. Poor gal is missing out on two hours’ pay because of someone else’s stupidity. That stinks.
