The mother of a man who tried to launch a firework off the top of his head for July Fourth and was killed instantly said Monday she's advocating for stricter controls about who can use the explosives.
Devon Staples, 22, and his friends had been drinking and setting off fireworks Saturday night in a backyard in Staples' eastern Maine hometown, Calais, when the accident happened with a reloadable fireworks mortar tube, police have said.

Not really illegal I guess. But I just wonder the mechanics of what exactly he did?
I find her words explosive and incendiary.
Lady, this is God’s little way of telling you that your genetic line has reached the end of it’s useful lifespan
All of those safety regulations on the gas cans? And I think put the last US company out of business (Blitz)? One of the lawsuits was from the family of a guy that poured gas from the can into his potbelly stove while it was already going - inside his house. (BOOM!) They won.

I’m looking at the comments section at the article’s source and it seems (kind of surprising for Yahoo) that the comments echo the sentiments expressed here in that you can not legislate against the drunken stupidity of the fool who died unfortunately.
Willing to bet that some greedy lawyer tries to sue the town. Bet he wins.
ah g’ne git PAID fo mah stupid kid’s ass !!
“They’re going to say, ‘Well, you can’t regulate stupidity’ ... and it’s true, you can’t. But the fact of the matter is you have to try something,” Lajoie said.
Why do you have to try something? After admitting the stupidity of trying to regulate imbecilic behavior, he says he will press ahead. This is the same stubborn idiocy demonstrated by gun hating statists.
My condolences to you madam but maybe you should of told your son that putting something that explodes on top of your head is not such a great idea.

I was young once. I did a lot of stupid things. I had a few friends who were way stupider than I was. No one I ever heard of ever, EVER put something called a mortar on his head and lit it.
‘...beautiful and unique snowflake...’
A. Was he wearing f*cking Khakis? LOL!
B. He must’ve been a member of Dumb Ass Club - because he never spoke of it, LOL!
C. Thanks! I needed to listen to this again. I need a kick in the pants from time to time. :)

Not sure what she is saying here.
Is she saying that she purchased the fireworks?
Also a reusable fireworks mortar and the shells it fires are pretty expensive. Not the kind of stuff you usually are firing at a backyard party.
There are far too many laws and regulations already. FAR too many.
“Cant legislate against stupidity.”
Unfortunately, there are more and more stupid people and the politicians keep trying.
I believe that this person meets the criteria for the Darwin Award. I salute him - it’s much more considerate than the idiots that leave their children and other responsibilities behind or injure/kill others in the inevitable process.
It’s not fair to mock someone in death so I’ll say nothing about the son. The mother however, is an IDIOT.
The mom sounds just as stupid as her dead kid
You have to take driving classes and pass driving tests to get a license to drive. So no one ever gets drunk and then does something stupid in a car.
As I say to these ‘ban everything’ morons......especially about guns. My father died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. I’ve NEVER called for banning guns. That would defy all common sense. He just as well could’ve thrown himself off a bridge. Ban bridges next?
