Hundreds of thousands of people gathered for gay pride parades, parties and celebrations around the world Sunday. Most events were peaceful, but in Istanbul, Turkish police fired water cannon and rubber pellets to disperse a crowd.
It was not immediately clear why Turkish police stopped marchers in Istanbul, where gay pride parades have been held in previous years. Turkish media reported that police said people would not to be allowed to march this year.
In New York, massive crowds gathered ahead of the citys annual gay pride parade, which was first held in 1970. Organizers said they expected a record crowd for the event, two days after the U.S. Supreme Courts landmark ruling to legalize gay marriage.
This years march is being led by two of Britains most famous openly gay actors, Ian McKellan and Derek Jacobi. Another massive parade is being taking place in San Francisco, California.
Parades were held Saturday in London and Paris.

That’s the spirit!
It’s going Islamic. Probably be here in 50 years.
All Gay male participants in the parade were placed in Turkish Prisons.
While only 3714 men were arrested at the parade, well over 6,000 have been placed in prison, and more gay men are reporting to police stations, demanding imprisonment, daily. . . (evil grin)
I tip my hat to Erdogan. At least he don’t take no *** from Libs
What is the possibility of having a Straight Pride Parade here in the U.S.?
Used to be known as a Veterans’ Day parade, IIRC.
I'm glad Erdogan lost his absolute grip in the recent election. The Kurds won seats for the first time. The Kurds support gay rights. Guess the anti-Turkish Pootinistas will now have to switch sides, eh? Pass the popcorn. Thanks BenLurkin.
The Kurds are very leftist. In the Middle East, there is only tribe.
