FULL TITLE: 19 Kids and Counting taken off the air by TLC in wake of revelation that son Josh molested young girls and his parents Jim Bob and Michelle covered it up

19 Kids and Counting has been taken off the air.

The show has not been officially cancelled at this time, but has been removed from the network's lineup.

The move comes one day after Josh Duggar, the oldest son of the family featured on the program, admitted that he molested young girls when he was a teenager.

Making matters worse, it was also revealed that his parents worked to cover up this scandal.

In the police report Michelle said that the place that Josh was sent to was not a counseling center. It was someone they knew who was remodeling a building. The police asked her if it was a licensed counselor. She said “no”. They asked her if the person were a mentor and she said “Sort of.”

The family said the victims had counseling but didn’t say where. I suspect if they received any at all if was most likely through their church.

We have no idea if Josh has changed his ways or not. The repeat for this type of offense is very high. The remedy is usually to just keep these people away from children. Yet the Duggars kept him at home with minor children, some of them his victims. I can’t imagine what that must have been like.

Indeed. Maybe his family is satisfied with having this predator walk around free. They are not allowed to make that call. It isn’t their decision nor should it be.

Yes, recidivism for this behavior is pretty much 100%. If Joshua Duggar did not reoffend ever again, he would be the first on record.

No they didn't.

They told a family friend in law enforcement who never filed a formal report.

And they knew he never followed up, and they allowed the statute of limitations to run out.

When a report was finally filed, it was not by them, and they lawyered up to prevent the law from getting the full story.

Michelle and Jim Bob are accessories - they forced molested children to live with their molester and made sure he never faced the consequences.

Hope all involved with any molesting OR cover-ups end up in prison.

What do you have against the family? It isn’t like they were parading their family for money. Let them deal with the tragedy, the reputation loss, and possible loss of income — in private. I am sure Josh has been redeemed and ready to become a kindergarten teacher.

I’ve never understood the worshipping of these people by conservatives. They have always given off this creep vibe to me.

Same here. I'd think they turn more people away from conservatism than they bring in.

And it should upset you. I know first hand that what happened in this case happens all of the time, but the shame to both the victim and victimizer keep it from being discussed openly (not to mention the legal repercussions).

I have had to deal with a similar thing where the boy and girl involved were both 4.

I have had to deal with a male student groping a female student’s breast when both were about 13.

I have had to help police recover cell data on an assault case.

I am familiar with how common this kind of behavior has become among elementary and junior high age students due to most of them having cell phones with cameras, internet, and video playback capabilities.

A business partner also has shared multiple cases with me where he had to assist police with video surveillance to deal with similar issues and accusations.

I have had many people share their heartbreak with me over things that were done to them.

Many males and females have shared their experiences of being raped or sexually assaulted.

From my experience, a lot of the condemnation, hypocrisy, and moral outrage come from people who do not know what is really happening to a large percentage of the children in our nation because many victims (let alone perps who are often victims as well) do not feel they can be open with their own parents because they are scared about how they will respond.

What a lot of people say on this forum about how they would get violent and take the law into their own hands or throw a family member in prison and wreck their lives by labeling them sex offenders IS NOT what the victims needs to hear in order to be reassured enough to open up.

Do you imagine these sisters are happy to know their brother’s life is being wrecked even if it is his own fault? From my experience they probably want him to get help and put it in the past. But a lot of people here want to publicize things like this and rejoice to see this guy suffer and even his family suffer who are not guilty of anything.

I have a good friend who I have known for forty years, since childhood, who was molested by her older brother. Her father covered it up. She is not particularly interested in how either of them are doing with it.

My ex-wife has been a mental health counselor for the past 25 years. I know all to well how common this kind of thing is, and it’s horrified me as I’ve found it out over my life.

When I was a teenager, I was responsible for care of cousins who were toddler to around ten years old. I have raised two children to adulthood. I have absolutely no sympathy for a person who does this kind of horrible act, and it’s far too often covered up and people go unpunished when it happens.

I was never molested, but I was adopted as an infant into a family with a Southern Baptist mother and an alcoholic father who only attended church because my mother made him. They were a successful family but home was a nightmare. My dad was an angry drunk, and while I was never molested, I was afraid of him until I was old enough and large enough through football and weighlifting at about 16 that I knew he couldn’t hit me anymore. I also knew I could never hit him back, because if I did, I wouldn’t stop until I was in handcuffs. I moved 3000 miles away when I had my kids because I didn’t want them growing up around him. I’ve made my peace with him, but it hasn’t been easy and it’s taken more than 40 years.

I have zero sympathy for people who terrorize children.

My mother is a devout Baptist and one of the adult members of the church who had grown up in the church went to prison because he he got angry with his newborn son and threw him against the wall and killed him. People in the church were horrified, but as he sat in prison, talk soon turned to how awful it was for him there and what a good faithful boy he was and how sorry he was. I don’t have sympathy for people who do this kind of crap to kids.

Yes, because TLC really hated all the money the family was bringing in to the network.

Would you feel the same about the incidents if it were a gay family it happened in? Illegal immigrants? Inner city blacks? Just because they are conservative Christians doesn’t give them a pass. Have you been repeatedly molested by a family member? Was it no big deal? In the case where a family’s lifestyle requires females to be “submissive,” the males in the family are doubly responsible for protecting them. That one of the girls snuck a note out in a loaned book indicates she did not feel comfortable handling it “within the family.”

So, so sorry to hear of what happened to you when you were a child.

I was never a fan of this family. But I agree with you here:

The victims are being re-victimized all over again due to the media.

You're right... No one is thinking of these girls. The boy was 14, and, yes, he should've known better. But I don't think we need to know all about what happened. The privacy of the girls should be respected.

I had a friend who was molested by a grown man when she was 8 years old. She was the victim, but when the man was prosecuted, her name became known, and the information about what happened followed her through high school. Her privacy was not respected, and other kids were terrible to her. People can be cruel... even to victims.
