The bull nose strip is usually flush at the top of the step, but overhangs on the rise. Plus the strips on the wall at each landing are scuff protectors. They would be going the other way if the cat was going up.
That was my take as well. You cannot tell anything from the cat; they defy gravity anyway.
Hilarious! Several years ago my work email spam filter failed and one of those Nigerian-type scams appeared. I decided to have some fun and responded with a request to verify they were on the up & up. I asked for $5,000 in gold bullion to be Fedex’d to me. Once the bullion was received and tested, I would be willing to discuss further interactions. They emailed back “I know understand you.” I responded “No kidding Dick Tracy!”
