A few photos at the link. It's believed to be the wreck of The Metropolis, which sank in a storm in the 1800's.

Interesting -- I always find touching real history to be moving.

Time was the Outer Banks were fairly covered with shipwrecks. Most have been relocated to The Graveyard Of The Atlantic Museum on Hatteras Island. It’s unusual to get to see one in the wild anymore. During or after a storm, such as now.

Looks like it was a good sized vessel.

Of course now, people in those beach houses will hear nightly footsteps on their ocean-view decks — from the ghostly tread of the long lost mariners.

They’ve heard Nazis on the porch back in WWII, nightly foraging raids, blackout curtains and all. A few haints ain’t a-gonna fret ‘em.

I’ve swum many times near the Nag’s Head pier.

Sometimes in the summer, the dolphins come close enough to shore that you can feel the Alphas beating the water; or, you could throw a ball and almost hit a dolphin, they are so close.

In my opinion, the Outer Banks are the most beautiful bit of coastline that the US has; and there’s amazing history there.

This is going to turn into another Adrienne Barbeau thread! Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Look at the amount of sand that was removed. Man has nothing on nature.

I met her at a DragonCon years ago. She was super nice and she also let me roll some tape (how quaint) and she said hello to my dad who is a big fan still.

Who is Adrenne Barbeau?

Adrienne Barbeau was the brunette version of Farah Fawcett back in the 70s. Pinup posters and all.
