Anthropologists Have Mapped All 61 Tattoos On Ötzi The Iceman

By using an innovative non-invasive photographic technique, European researchers have managed to locate and map the extensive set of tattoos on the exquisitely preserved remains of Ötzi the Iceman. Remarkably, they even found a previously unknown tattoo on his ribcage.

Ötzi's frozen remains were discovered by two German tourists in the Ötzal Alps on the border between Austria and Italy in 1991. He lived around 3,300 BCE and represents Europe's oldest natural human mummy. Because he was so well preserved in ice, he has provided anthropologists with a slew of information about Copper Age (or Chalcolithic) humans.

...

It's worth noting that Ötzi's tattoos were not applied by needles, but by making incisions into which charcoal was rubbed.

Yeah, get on with your bad selves. I expect better from Conservatives. Having feelings and emotions is one thing. Basing your opinions of people on them is entirely another. Saying that people with tats are scum or otherwise substandard is ignorant, plain and simple.

Sounds like your angry. Feelings. You are basing your arguments on your feelings. Thank you for making my point. If you need further insight into this point, read David Hume on Reason Is and Ought Only to Be the Slave of the Passions

Never said that people with tats were substandard? Sounds like it to me. Hell, you even had the "Don't mean to offend" (while I'm being offensive) caveat:

Personally, I hate tatoos. They seem to be an ugly bruise to me, no matter what they are. A dead skin zone. The idea that a man from ancient times shows how unintelligent a behavior they are to me. Not trying to offend but that is how I feel.

No, no anger. Rather, I do enjoy laughing at ignorant dbags that like to stereotype. As a matter of fact, LOL!

Don’t like tats? Great! Don’t get one. But don’t get offended when I call you out for talking trash about people who do have them. It’s none of your business. I support your right to hate tats. There’s nothing wrong with that. But don’t talk trash about people who do have them. You have no clue what you’re talking about.

Not meaning to offend is just that. Giving an opinion knowing it’s not going to be well accepted. That is not the reason for stating my opinion. It is to log the thoughts about the matter from another point of view, so it is not invisible.

Stating something to offend is a deliberate action to create an negative reaction, which is what you are having.

I actually have no interest in your reaction.

Sure got a lot to say on a subject you don't care about. In any event, opinions based on sound logic, reasoning and facts are always welcome, especially when they are contrary to my own. I'm always open to learn something new or look at something from a different point of view in an effort to be sure I don't miss out on something. Personal opinions based entirely on BS? Not interested. But I'm still gonna LOL @ the ignorance when I do hear it.

The news reader on the radio this morning said he was “56,000 years old.” He doesn’t look a day older than 5,000 years old.

Maybe the newsreader slurred the words "five to six thousand".

So, you are saying that getting a tattoo for a purely medical (pain mitigation) reason is stupid?

I don't get it. maybe I am misunderstaning you.

A man from ancient times doing this for possible medicinal reasons I thought was an interesting theory. Could be.

Btw, they are still not sure what the reasons were. They are working on trying to understand it. The article said, “This investigation has given researchers a new piece to add to the jigsaw puzzle when trying to tease out whether prehistoric tattoos had a therapeutic, symbolic or religious significance.”

Yup. My theory is that he was on the lam from the law.

Tried to escape over into the next valley but the posse put an arrow into him.

Didn’t get too far after that.

Don’t like tats? ...You have no clue what you’re talking about.

If you look at what I wrote, I said nothing about tattoos. You have no clue that you are a dick.

Then I guess I wasn't talking to about the tats part, right? Makes sense.

I thought she enunciated pretty clearly, but I guess it's possible.

I bet if they run a dna test on Dennis Rodman they will find he is a direct descendant of Otzi.
