Good morning everyone. A short post to get Freeper opinion. I saw former General Zinni on Fox News this morning and he came out in favor of the report released this week by Diane Feinstein. What is the word on Zinni? Was he a good commander? Was he anti Bush, pro Obama?
Zinni was a rogue general, mostly siding with the left. He was certainly no Mattis. I haven’t read much abut his command capability or how his Marines viewed him, but my personal impression is that he wanted to be a diplomat more than a warrior.....
Clinton lackie.
Was floated as a running mate of Obama in 2008.
Bronze Start with V and Purple Heart.
Supported Surge in Iraq and advocates for another in Afghanistan.
What was the Purple Heart for? I can name you a person who has three PH's and I am sure you would snort in disgust.
He stated we were torturing the terrorists. Nobody mentions the beheadings; using a decapitated head for a soccer ball; dragging bodies in the street, hanging them from a bridge, and setting the bodies on fire. We play loud music, keep them awake, waterboard them, and we are monsters. Why are people not talking about this disconnect?
Zinni is a leftist, Israel-hating swine. Disregard anything he says, as you would Weasely Clark.
Mideast Envoy under Bush who achieved no more than any other mideast envoy. Does a lot of self-promoting PR with books about himself, public speaking, boards of various corporations, occasional teaching at various institutions. Clearly has continuing personal ambitions, as witnessed by his re-emergence now. I'd say overall he looks pretty full of himself and his virtuous agenda.
I know several people who served under him and speak highly of him as an officer and a Marine. He supported George W. Bush when he first ran. But turned against him during the runup to the Iraq War, which he said then, and still says, was a mistake.
He blamed himself for the USS Cole attack, has been retired a long time, still manages to run his mouth.

Not former, retired. A retired officer retains his rank in a retired status and is subject to recall to duty. Former means he never reached retirement, resigned, or was dismissed from the service.
Zinni (whom I remember as a one-star as Adm R.A.K. Taylor’s assistant director of J-3 at USEUCOM) was very pro-Clinton back in the 1990s and continues his leftward tilt now. He’s along the same line as GEN Wesley Clark.
General Zinni may have Democrat leanings but he was a fine officer with a very distinguished history as a commander and a forward thinker. I have read a number of posters’ ravings and childish comments and am disappointed in them.
I met and worked with General Zinni several times during my career and he was energetic, forceful, imaginative and committed to his Marines.
I don’t care at all if he has come to view things differently than I prefer: he has more than earned the right to his opinions.

Today he demonstrated his full support for
the Terrorists and the destruction of America.
He earned his opinions, right or wrong. What have you done? Go ahead, don't be shy, tell us everything.
If you did not, you need to hold your water. OBTW anyone who is a registered Democrat, The Democrat Party has been and continues to be the It has been the Party of Progressivism and Communism since 1917. Your blind support of zinni, suggests your support for all of the above Did you hear him speak this morning ?
supports the murder of children as it is in their platform.
Party of Slavery since 1828, Jim Crow, Ku Klux Klan,
segregation of the United States military since Wilson.
I give him full credit for criticizing this administration's policies in the Middle East. Since he criticized Bush's policies, and now Obama's policies, I wonder what his policy would be. Perhaps he has something of a TE Lawrence complex....(I believe he has been described as being an Arabist.)
I got to work a bit with him a few times and he is definitely opinionated and fancies himself a Middle East specialist, as you have ascertained. He’s a good guy to work for and is not too arrogant - he seems to enjoy debates.
I attended a combat leadership seminar he chaired a while ago and we got to the Principles of War ( you know, Mass, Objective, Surprise, Speed, etc.) and I mentioned that we should add another: Knowing the culture and language of our enemy and the people we are supporting. He eyed me for a minute and “I get it, you’re a Vietnam vet” and grinned at me.
I hate Democrat policies and will never vote for any Democrat but Tony Zinni’s a great leader and was an outstanding Marine.
Your personal site seems to imply you had service in the army. It’s a shame that you seem to have lost your sense of dignity. No, I don’t believe anything that the Democrat Party stands for and I’ll bet I’ve been more actively politically than you have against Obama, amnesty and abortion - and pro-gun. Implying that I’m pro-abortion because I knew and admire Tony Zinni is idiotic and should be beneath you if you have any self respect left to you.
Literacy does not seem to be your strongest skill set.Have a wonderful journey.
First, my military experience - retired enlisted Navy; from 76 to 96; 5 ships, 3 shore commands (1 shore command in Naples, Italy); never been in combat. I tip my hat off to anyone who served in the military, a double tip to those who made it a career, triple tip for those who made it through Marine boot camp or officer training, and four tips to those who served in combat. I really respect all of you as I feel I did nothing special in the Navy. Did my time, served my country, hopefully made a difference somewhere.
With that said, I do not believe anyone who has served gets a free lifetime pass. John Kerry served in the Navy - does he get a pass? Wesley Clark served in the Army - does he get a pass? John McCain served in the Navy - does he get a pass? Chuck Hagel served in the Army - does he get a pass?
My hat is off to General Zinni many times but just because he served does not mean he can never be questioned on any statement he makes. Yes, he has the right to his opinion but I have the equal right to believe him wrong. Many have sspoken out 180 degrees opposite of Zinni - so who is right?
As I stated in an earlier post, I cannot understand how anyone in the military can be a dem or suck up to dems. Dems historically want to slash the military. Why would anyone promote a political party that wants to eliminate your job? Zinni has the right to his beliefs and opinions, but I believe that if you promote a group that wants you gone, you are not thinking straight. Unless, you want to be a part of that elite group and curtail the freedoms of the citizens and country you swore an oath to defend.
What say you?
