TMZ, Howard Stern Show star in Goodell press conference circus

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s press conference did not allay all the concerns that fans and the general public have about the league’s handling of domestic violence. But the press conference did feature some strange situations.

For starters, a reporter from TMZ, which broke this whole issue open by publishing the now-infamous video of Ray Rice punching his wife in an elevator, asked Goodell why the NFL couldn’t find that video. Goodell didn’t have much of an answer. This was their exchange:

TMZ: “You suspended Ray Rice after our video. Why didn’t you have the curiosity to go to the casino yourself?”

Goodell: “Well, two things. We suspended Ray Rice originally after seeing the original video that was disclosed in February. When the second video came out last week, that’s when we increased our discipline because that was inconsistent with the information we had. It was new information. One of the things that I said in my statement, and I said repeatedly here, is that is part of what we want to do with all of our experts, outside, internal, is try to figure out, How should we investigate these issues? In the past, we have been almost completely reliant on working with law enforcement and cooperating with them. We do not want to interfere with an investigation. And particularly here when you’re dealing with a casino in New Jersey there are even more restrictions because it’s overseen, I believe, by the attorney general. So we have to be very cautious not to interfere with an investigation, but we’ll evaluate that. Should we do more to get that information? I would have loved to see that tape. Should we do more to get that information in the future? That’s a question I want these experts to do.”

TMZ: “Mr. Commissioner, we found out by one phone call. You guys have a whole legal department. Can you explain that? We found out by just one phone call.”

Goodell: “I can’t explain how you got the information.”

An even odder spectacle was the sound of a man screaming from off camera while Goodell was at the podium. TV viewers had no idea what was happening but could hear the man yell, “What are you doing? Don’t take me to an elevator! Please, don’t take me to an elevator!”

That man was later revealed to be Benjy Bronk of The Howard Stern Show. That portion of the press conference is below:

“Ending the careers of these players is going to help victims, how?”

By preventing more victims, because if a football player knows his career is over upon the first serious act of criminality, he might act better. If he doesn’t, than the NFL will eventually filter out bad actors and the game might return to respectability.

Don’t blame liberals for what they are doing to the NFL. The league and your personal tolerance of this is what is fueling the ability of liberals to do this. If football players were the kind of people that kids could look up to, the liberals could not touch the league.

No, just to head off any accusations, I’m not being anti-football. I’m just being anti-excuse for bad human beings.

How about having the similar standards for the NFL?

Because NFL players don't threaten my freedoms. They're not elected officials.

We are living in a soviet society.

It is amazing that so few people see what is happening.

A great source of discouragement is how conservatives ignorantly contribute to the soviet, totalitarian-mentality atmosphere.

The SPCA, Madd, domestic violence orgs, EPA, the absurd war on drugs, and much more, are 10% directed at real things and 90% directed at criminalizing American life.

But much more so they are directed toward creating a compliant mentality. They have almost zero beneficial effect otherwise.

They have succeeded.

Part of the reason for why politics is so corrupt, because too many people support acts of corruption elsewhere in life. You, by supporting a league that allows players to freely act as criminals, is helping to keep corrupt politicians in office, because the league contributes to the coffers of these corrupt politicians to ensure the benefits the league gets under the tax code stays.

Even if you will never admit to it, you are part of the problem because you are willing to tolerate, accept, and celebrate corruption in your life.

By preventing more victims

Really? An NFL player's good conduct will pass onto the fans who frequently get into arguments and fights with their loved ones and friends, usually after drinking the same piss beer that is now threatening to pull is sponsorship from the league?

because if a football player knows his career is over upon the first serious act of criminality, he might act better. If he doesn’t, than the NFL will eventually filter out bad actors and the game might return to respectability.

No, what would happen is that there wouldn't be any future football players to filter out because the liberals have conditioned Moms not to send their sons to get hurt.

Don’t blame liberals for what they are doing to the NFL

Nope, the Left is 100% behind what's going on. Players committing crimes and other transgressions have been going on since the leather helmet days as I stated before. James Lofton was charged with sexual assault in the 1980s. Where were the feminazis and leftists then?

The league and your personal tolerance of this is what is fueling the ability of liberals to do this. If football players were the kind of people that kids could look up to, the liberals could not touch the league.

I'm not condoning any player's bad behavior. Those who did commit crimes should get the boot - not from the Left howling like banshees, but the league should take care of it - INTERNALLY and have no press conferences. I'm stating a fact. The league is wealthy, blacks from the ghettos have become famous and millionaires, football has created a ton of other jobs, so the Left has to destroy it under the pretense of "cleaning up" the league.

If you can't see this, then you're as blind as a bat.

“The NFL has had criminal scumbags since the leather helmet days.”

I haven’t seen recent info, but when this same stuff came up a few years ago, one researcher found some valid data stating that the frequency of abuse, both sexual and physical, for the NFL was a fraction of that of the general public.

I don’t care who is behind demonizing the league. Any league that supports the level of violence deserves to disappear, imo.

When talking about violence, I’m not talking about violence that happens on the football field. As a NHL fan, I do watching players knock each other out. I’m only talking about the kind that would get a regular person locked up.

If the league cares about its survival, it will institute steps that slowly filter out the kind of people that I wouldn’t want as next door neighbours. If it doesn’t take these steps, hasta la vista.

Americans will eventually find new sports to love.

The problem is that the league hasn’t been taking any serious steps to take care of the worst of offenders. If somebody does something serious, in his public life that would have ended the career and their lives as they knew it if he were a normal person, he’d get a two-day suspension in the league.

The fact that there are so many people who are criminals in the league, just shows the inadequate steps the league is taking.

IMO - don’t blame the NFL - this is a cultural problem. It is a conditioning process by looking upon women as less than human. Just listen to the words of today’s music, the prevalence of porn.

How so? Not saying you are wrong about it, just curious as to what you have in mind there.

Americans tailgating and strangers coming together rooting for their favorite team doesn't promote civility?

I don’t care who is behind demonizing the league.

You should care. Because what the Left is doing to football is going to spread to other sports and activities. The global warming crowd, for example, may go after NASCAR for wasting gas and creating air pollution. Or because the high speeds are "unsafe" and the federal DOT should regulate the league.

Any league that supports the level of violence deserves to disappear

Oh please. The NFL doesn't condone any violence and has always taken steps to root out bad apples. The NBA has 30 times as many thugs as the NFL so why aren't the Left targeting the NBA?

I’m not accusing the NFL of cultivating a violent culture, as they are getting an end product of a lifetime of cultivation.

But I do hold the NFL responsible for keeping any players who are accused of serious levels of criminal activity and violence.

To be clear, I’m not talking about stuff that a normal person could commit and not have his life being over. A person’s career shouldn’t be over because of a weekend bar fight, where he was defending himself and happened to seriously hurt somebody who attacked him.

I’m talking about the Ray Rice’s, or Ray Lewis’, or the drug dealings, or the rapes, and the other stuff that goes on that would have ended yours or my life as we knew it.

As I said, the left couldn’t do this if the league was really self-policing itself. It’s not and that is why it is open to being attacked.

If, as a fan and other fans, had been less tolerant of the acts of the players, you wouldn’t have this. There is a reason why the Bible calls us Christians to not even give the appearance of evil, and this is the reason.

Eff Roger Goodell and the NFL billionaire welfare cases.

Did you know Roger Goodell and the NFL strong arms cities into waiving hotel taxes for them?

Ah, yes it does. No doubt a lot more good stuff comes from that than the rudeness one sometimes hears about. You only hear about the bad news most of the time.

I guess I was thinking more on field with all the swishy celebrations and chest slapping displays after routine plays. I wish there was a way for the cool players to self police the jerks, but they can’t or won’t. Big problem, at least for me.

“it’s the fact that said league is successful “

in no small part due to its tax-exempt non-profit status and special exemption from the anti-truest laws obtained by insertion of special words into a foreign aid bill ...

99% of the league IS looked upon favorably. And guess what? The NFL had the highest TV ratings of any other shows last week. Its all part of the plan and they aren’t going anywhere.
