This Is What Would Happen If The Yellowstone Supervolcano Erupted
Business Insider ^ | September 9, 2014 | Ajai Raj

Recently, rumors have been swelling of a danger at Yellowstone National Park. That danger? A brewing supervolcano eruption.

The fear of a Yellowstone supereruption, which ultimately went viral, may have begun back in February when a seismometer called B944 began sending senseless data to a public viewer at the University of Utah's seismographic station, as George Black reports in The New Yorker.

Luckily for most of the U.S., the likelihood this eruption would happen is pretty low: about one in 100,000 any given year. If it did happen, it would be pretty devastating, though.

All that will be left will be lawyers and cockroaches.

In other words, just cockroaches.

1 in 100,000 odds? That’s not very comforting for those who play the Lotto.

These dire predictions may be substantially understated. A physicist told me that if this thing really blows, everyone in a 1,000-mile radius has less than half an hour to live before the shock and heat arrive. Ash would be the least of our worries.

If it happens in the next two years, Obama will hold a photo op blaming it on the Republicans, and head to the golf course.

about 3/8 inch of ash for north Texas - wouldn’t that help enrich our soil and cool our summers for several years?

Better start adding insulation to your house for those cold winters without electricity or gas, too. You north Texas folks always have scrub brush to burn, I guess.

Why waste time speculating on something that has odds of 100,000:1 against?

BECAUSE we do it every year at about this time. That's why this is the subject of several threads here on FR and many articles on the ENTERNUTZ.

It's like a centennial party times 10,000.

Maybe they should just replace the remote seismometer sensor.

Of course Yellowstone is not a volcano, it is a caldera something like 30 miles across. And of course Toba is not a volcano either, just a giant caldera and lake, 18 y 65 miles. But heaven help us if either of these non volcanoes blows again big time.

One side benefit would be ——
An eruption would spook millions of illegal aliens ....they would exit en mass and skedaddle back to their 3rd world spawning grounds. Then lock down the borders so they can never get back in
