So you torture them before dispatching them? Excellent!

I had Eye Surgery was I was Five. I still remember the Ether Mask (and the smell) on my face and I think there were at least four Doctors staring down at me while I was on the Table.

I was in the Hospital for almost a week and my Parents paid Cash for the whole thing. I think it was $500 Dollars or so. I’ll have to ask my Dad, he just turned 91 but he remembers all these little nuggets of information from way back when.

Yes, i buy the rabbit peeps, and decapitate them for my drinking chocolate. If I’m really in a silly mood, I sing Elmer Fudd’s song “kill the wabbit”

They taste so gooooooood.

I wasn’t kidding about the rag.

There was no mask - just a thing like a washcloth with ether soaked into it.

This was about 60 years ago.

$500 for a medical procedure involving no fewer than four docs?

When I saw the age 91, I had to read it twice to understand it was your Dad and not you!

I recently had one procedure, an echocardiogram, not involving a doc (the tech was cute, however), which racked up $2400. Blue Cross hammered it down to $247, of which I owed $20 (+$5 in hospital parking fees). Results negative (my doc thought he heard somthing through his stethescope, LOL).

Our mom always told the story....when she had [uncomplicated vaginal delivery] my brother in c. 1939.....she spent 8 days in the hospital...the bill? $9.00

After she passed, I found that very bill while cleaning out her papers. ;)

No, it was me. My Dad paid for it back in 1958.

Like I said, I need to ask him about it. I have always heard it was around $500 for everything. Just peeked my memory when I read the other Post about the Ether.

I still remember the big red “Operating Rooms” sign with a big red arrow that I saw when they were wheeling me down the hallway on the Gurney.

I was reading at age four and the memory of seeing that sign is as vivid today as it ever was, just like the smell of the Ether, the Doctors looking down on me and the bright Surgical Light above them.

You might enjoy: Veggie Tales: The Bunny Song, too, even though this video isn't the best quality.

Hopefully, the procedure worked and left you as good as new, whatever it was.

You can probably add two or three zeros to the $500 tab to bring it up to 2014. But who knows what it would have been after your parents' 2014 plan would have processed it?

That's the big problem with 2014 medicine. Pricing is set by bureaucracy, not market forces. When my doc recommended that echocardiogram, I didn't think twice, even though I felt fine. If I'd been quoted the official price of $2400, I'd have laughed and left.

Personally, that’s a bit expensive at about $3/round to be playing around...

Tonsils out at the age of four...and now, over a half century later I still remember the ether!

But there is poetic justice. As I am now a “serious” Biker, I look fondly back at the name of the Hospital in which this event changed my life forever.

It was called “The Harley Hospital” I kid you not.

And, yes, Circus Peanuts have a smell that brings back that experience.

Yesterday, we traveled about 80 miles to see an art exhibit. All the artworks were made of Peeps. It was called the Peepshow.

No, seriously. Actually, it was pretty cool.

“Circus Peanuts would’ve stopped that sucker on the first row.”

Actually, I like Circus Peanuts.

Although I also enjoyed haggis when I tried it...

Guys? Stay focused, the subject here is Peeps, not the Ether Bunny.
