My cousin inflicted LISP on me as my second computer language after FORTRAN about 1970. I recall this 2 inch thick blue and white bound book of confusion and grew to hate counting parenthesis.

When I saw the bumper sticker on the vehicle (a Jeep, a matter of fact) on loop 820 in Ft. Worth, it prompted me to skim my Winston and Horn book. I haven't cracked Lisp: 3rd Edition in a dozen years or so. What made me feel ancient is that they describe CAR and CDR as used only by we hoary old timers. FIRST and REST? C'mon man! :)

Honestly, only for this post. It was the bumper sticker that instigated the thread and led me to rediscovering the Winston and Horn book mostly on a lark, using sbcl. That said, I do quite a bit of Elisp but that's mostly stealing from bits and pieces from .emacs files I come across on the net.

In other words, 127.0.0.1 is any computer you happen to be sitting in front of right now.

I supervise some of the new Cyber training for the AF. It's amazing how few people would understand your post these days. When computers first started taking off in the mid-late '80s, everyone "played" and knew a lot. These days, nobody seems to have interests with figuring out how things work.
