The skeleton of a Maya Queen - with her head mysteriously placed between two bowls - is just one of the treasures found in a 2,000-year-old rodent-infested tomb.

Priceless jade gorgets, beads, and ceremonial knives were also discovered in the cavern - which was found underneath a younger 1,300-year-old tomb which also contained a body - in the Guatemalan ruins of Nakum.

The two royal burials are the first to be discovered at the site, which was once a densely packed Maya centre.

Maybe she was the Julia Childs of her day, and this was how they honored her.

I'm just thinking there's a lot of room for interpretation in ancient artifacts and remains.

The Egyptians knew how to do it better. Much more pomp.

You know how it is, you get started on a project and keep getting interrupted with urgent, but less important manners until you decide that you just don’t have the time to deal with your project will get to it later.

That’s why her head was on the shelf, for later.

I’m halfway through historian Charles Mann’s “1491,” which covers North and South America in the run up to 1519 and the arrival of Cortez.

I’d recommend the book and Mann’s sequel, “1493” to anyone interested in this bit of history.

The Mayan ruins have not generally been robbed and desecrated the way the Egyptians have been. We only found the BIG ones in the twenties. My guess is that these are lesser officials—the kind that were robbed a thousand years ago in Egypt. I would also assume the spaniards melted down the goos stuff with little fanfare in the 1500’s.

I think she wrote something about the Mexican cartels on some blog and they went back in time to teach her a lesson. :)

LOL

People bent on murder need no excuse.

The cartels lerndeded from the maya-

The water of life. The water of death.

Or, when they laid her down, no longer talking, the sh!+ was coming out both ears...instead...

LOL

The people who resist the cartels never make it across the border and are placed in mass graves.

The people who made it across the border obviously did the cartels bidding by bringing in all the shit they could carry...and should be placed in mass graves...

LOL
