British climate professor John Mitchell may face fraud charges ( Feb 2010 )

Now another senior British climate scientist–this time Professor John Mitchell, the Met Office’s Director of Climate Science, is about the face the full force of the blogosphere for contemptuous breaches of the UK’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Mitchell and the UK Meteorological Office have apparently been up to the same tricks as Professor Phil Jones of the now discredited UK Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia.

The Met Office is refusing to disclose Prof Mitchell’s working papers and correspondence with his IPCC colleagues in response to requests filed under the FOIA. The block has been endorsed in writing by Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth –- whose department has responsibility for the Met Office. Professor John Mitchell was joint chief fabricator of the absurd headline in the 2007 Nobel Prize-winning IPCC report: that the Earth is now hotter than at any time in the past 1,300 years. A claim totally at odds with the evidence presented in the IPCC’s First Report of 1990.

How Met Office blocked questions on its own man's role in 'hockey stick' climate row

Ignored concerns: Professor Mitchell approved controversial report

The Meteorological Office is blocking public scrutiny of the central role played by its top climate scientist in a highly controversial report by the beleaguered United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Professor John Mitchell, the Met Office’s Director of Climate Science, shared responsibility for the most worrying headline in the 2007 Nobel Prize-winning IPCC report – that the Earth is now hotter than at any time in the past 1,300 years.

And he approved the inclusion in the report of the famous ‘hockey stick’ graph, showing centuries of level or declining temperatures until a steep 20th Century rise.

By the time the 2007 report was being written, the graph had been heavily criticised by climate sceptics who had shown it minimised the ‘medieval warm period’ around 1000AD, when the Vikings established farming settlements in Greenland.

In fact, according to some scientists, the planet was then as warm, or even warmer, than it is today.

Early drafts of the report were fiercely contested by official IPCC reviewers, who cited other scientific papers stating that the 1,300-year claim and the graph were inaccurate.

But the final version, approved by Prof Mitchell, the relevant chapter’s review editor, swept aside these concerns.

Now, the Met Office is refusing to disclose Prof Mitchell’s working papers and correspondence with his IPCC colleagues in response to requests filed under the Freedom of Information Act.

Not that I am a proponent of this, but it's possible that something could be true in 2007 that wasn't seventeen years earlier (I accept, though, that it was not true since the 1930s were hotter than the 1990s).

For every Gate (Watergate, Climategate, etc.) there’s a John Mitchell.

I’m just saying it was a poorly written sentence. We know that what was claimed was not true, because we can look at the actual temperatures. It doesn’t follow, however, that the claim couldn’t have been true in 2007 because it wasn’t true in 1990.

Ok....I read it as the temperatures were hotter 1300 years ago than anything since including the years since 2000.

I thought it was claiming that temperatures at the end of the 20th century were the hottest over the past 1300 years, though that didn't necessarily mean that before 1300 years ago they were hotter. They had to wipe out the Medieval Warm Period to do this. In the 1990 IPCC report, the MWP was acknowledged to have existed. By 17 years later, Mann, et al, had eradicated both it as well as the mini ice age following it.

The whole lot of these clowns both in England, USA, and other key goons attached to high office positions in the number of organizations we often site should all be tried and put in prison. They where in positions of trust.
However. We must also see the European, Canadian, Australian, USA governments, others, start going after the bastards that run the international banks that drove this whole idea as well as the damn commies from academia.
Let the L/MSM off the hook to a degree. They must be forced to start reporting the world scam in it's true sense. Even though we understand so many of them are simply the media organ of the socialist/communist movement.
The actual scientist, engineers, chemist, geologist etc., that have for so long gone the way of AGW and GW on a basic level of understanding being feed the horse shit from the upper echelon should be spared. Most probably many where just trying to carry out what they believe to be and often supported fully was solid scientific work.

You do know that what you stated above was only true for the United States and not globally, don't you?
