I agree. I think my wording may have been poor. I meant that we have no reason to panic. I consider warming trends to be good, on balance. I’m not sure we are really in a warming trend. Either way, I see no reason for us to be concerned.

Now, I do consider cooling trends to be a bad thing. We could actually be in a cooling trend. Lack of Sun spots are an indication. So, I might be concerned (a little) about cooling. But I will not be whip-sawed into “SUVs cause Warming/SUVs cause Cooling”. I think the Sun does what it wants to do, and we make the best of it. I will not panic.

In sub freezing climates the lack of snowfall will allow the accumulation of ash, soot and dust from the atmosphere which coats the glacier. That stuff then absorbs the sun's rays rather than reflect them, thus causing the melt.

Kinda like roads melting faster after a snow fall than the lawns and fields.....

Glacial melting is why they had to go down 380 feet in the ice to recover a flight of P-38 fighters who landed in Greenland during the war.

More than likely this would have to do with volcanic action and the cycles if sunspot activity.

But, lets not get well known cyclical events get in the way of a good climate change story. LOL.

300 AD was before the Viking era but was in the middle of the Roman Warm Period, 250-400 AD. So presumably it was pretty warm in Norway as well as the rest of Europe.
