If Schneiderman is guilty, why did his victims go back to him “repeatedly” “often” and “frequently”?

If Eric Schneiderman really is guilty, then why did his victims go back to him “repeatedly,” “often,” and “frequently”?

Disclaimer: I am a person who believes that women have free will. Some of the following statements by me may seem controversial, but I am operating under the assumption that women have free will.

The recent New Yorker article on Eric Schneiderman’s alleged abuse of four women states:

“They allege that he repeatedly hit them, often after drinking, frequently in bed and never with their consent.”

If these intelligent, strong willed, college educated women with high paying jobs and expensive apartments in Manhattan continued to go to bed with Schneiderman “repeatedly,” “often,” and “frequently,” after the first time that he allegedly hit them, I’m having trouble understanding how any of this was “never with their consent.”

None of these women have accused Schneiderman of kidnapping them.

I think each of these woman did the following cost-benefit analysis in her head:

“On the one hand, this guy is a physically abusive scumbag, and I should probably stop going to bed with him.”

“On the other hand, he is famous and wealthy, and he has a lot of influence and social status. So I should continue going to bed with him.”

So it seems to me that these women looked at their options, and they apparently decided that continuing to go to bed with him was a good idea.

It seems to me that if we are to view these women as victims, then we are essentially saying that they do not have free will. And that is not something that I am willing to accept.

You can get mad at me if you want. You can hate me if you want. But I still maintain my belief that women have free will.

If anyone disagrees with me on this, please explain why in the comment section.

You're tough. That's something not all men think about unless they were taught that at home.

Well, I gave plenty of warning first. Problem is, some men don't think a woman is serious unless she's crying, screaming, or throwing things. I don't cry, scream, or throw things. I speak. I speak again. I speak a few more times (also known as "nagging") and then I give up and leave.

” Geez, I’ve left men for not helping me with the dishes. “

Hmmm. That is the price of putting out or not putting out?

Maybe you should revise your handle

Women who find themselves in abusive marriages often have trouble getting out. The marriage, the finances, the kids. There can be fear that he will kill them if they leave and then the kids would be motherless.

I think we all know that, and we know that these were just girlfriends, and finances or children weren’t an issue.

If you’ve ever been with an abusive partner, even just a verbally abusive one, often they feel regret after, or fear of retribution or loss of control over this woman, and they come on extremely strong with displays of undying apology and devotion. I got a ton of jewelry in my first marriage, none of which I kept because it was apology jewelry after verbal or emotional cruelty. Yuck.

But for a while, as much as I wanted out, I stayed and tried to figure out how I would ever get free.

If I has ever gotten slapped in the face til my ear was bloody, though, I would have left within minutes, forever. It was more of a grey area and I tried (I was young and stupid) to be a forgiving person. When I finally got out I had to be very clever and sneaky. It’s not always so easy.

Victims often can and should be cognizant of avoiding these predators. But that doesn’t absolve the predators. Ever.

Good point. Like the young woman who goes alone to the beach to sunbathe and lies down with her eyes closed in her bikini. She does not deserve to be raped, because she made the poor choice.

I hope I don’t really have to explain to you that “time-honored” and “traditional” were used sarcastically in an attempt to show that abuse is the real problem, not games.

I’m sorry that sexuality took this turn. I think it’s a mistake and one that can’t be undone. Pandora’s box and all that. Money is being made from it.

But for the women to blame the men is outrageous.

The women had no self-respect and liked to be around power and the elite.

In addition to freewill, they have self-determination. Don’t forget about that.

Did the author miss the part about the threats if they stopped the deal or said anything?????

Does the author know if he started right in with the worst of the abuse or if he added it a bit at a time until they were partially inured to the increases - like drug dealers ...?

Need to have a lot more first hand info before defending that piece of scum who it now turns out had the rep for a long time.

Q for anyone: Is sexual coercion a crime in NYS?

If not, now we know why, eh...

Some women get addicted to the adrenalin rush.

The abusive man might hurt her and terrify her, but he will never bore her. Unlike “nice guys”.

When this story first broke one or two of the women said that he threatened to invent charges and prosecute them if they didn’t go along. If anyone had the power to do that, he did.

Where did you pick up your penny ante philosophy about women who go on first dates with the Attorney General of New York?

maybe so, but i would. not. allow. a man. to beat. me, period.( I don’t even like being bossed around.) He’s full of sh!t. He probably said this to scare them and keep them around.
No. I can honestly say I would have said “!!@#%@@ you! Bring it” and left him. and i have been this way since i was a young lady.
He knew before this started that they were going to be easy marks.

“He probably said this to scare them and keep them around.”

Of course; that’s exactly why he did it. No other reason.

“He knew before this started that they were going to be easy marks.”

Right again. Abusers have a sixth sense and can spot a personality type who will be easily manipulated.

I worked with abused women and was surprised at how many strong, accomplished women found themselves in situations with domestic abuse. On the surface, I NEVER would have believed it.

I thought that immediately. And the answer of course is that there is considerably more here than what has been exposed on the news.

Logic tells me two things. His history of Dirty Deeds against women is far more sorted and extensive then anyone nose. And also that it’s a good possibility his activities involved other high-ranking Democrats. If for no other reason than they have been helping to cover it up. And it would look pretty bad if they were caught doing that. We have a inkling of that by the reports that the women were threatened to keep quiet.

PS I dictated this to my phone and I’m not going to go back and fix the funky spelling.

Attorney Generals of New York have a long history of abusing both men and women in court, out of court. My private club fell into Spitzer’s hands in the 90s. It took a fixer to get us out of that mess but it got ugly for a while with Spitzer’s gang threatening us every Friday afternoon with incredible fines and personal threats of prison. Fixers can be handy things which is why we have them in NYC.

Perhaps it is a form of droite de seigneur that these guys indulge in.
