Well written and as far as I can tell, pretty accurate. Watching the helicopter video I thought he may be on some kind of drugs too, didn’t think specifically of PCP though. But it makes sense. People on enough PCP will do some really strange things. It was once passed off as Angel Dust, and I’ve known people who did some really bizarre things.
walking to the car casually is what tipped me off, anyone in his right mind with pistols pointed in his general direction will NOT do that. From the video I couldn’t tell either if he was trying to reach inside the car, open it or reach into his waistband.
I’ve known a few cops, I understand a lot of he way they talk. I’ve heard the term “good shooting” and “good takedown”. Things they would never say to the families. I also know 99% are not racist or intentionally brutal. And they HATE IT when you don’t pull over and get the hell out of the way when their lights come on. In the 20 seconds I saw a cop take to get through a red light a few weeks ago because nobody would stop, someone could have died.
I don’t want to make a call on this one yet, we don’t know enough to decide who was in the wrong or if the officer had good reason to fire. I do wonder why someone didn’t at least try a taser. I heard the chopper pilot say it was taser time. I thought so too. That’s a big question, but as noted, someone on PCP might just shrug it off. And PCP is not the only one, someone on meth might be almost as bad. I’ve seen people act downright bizarre once a meth binge gets into hallucination stage.
Who knows what really happened? This article is very good, it gives you an insight from a cop’s perspective, something we don’t usually get. Having talked to several cops about this kind of thing, I know a lot of it is very accurate.
Same as with Michael Brown and Freddie Gray, this soon in the investigation we, as civilians not privy to details, don’t know anywhere near enough to make a decision. We saw what can happen with Michael Brown, the hands up don’t shoot lie, and now in Charlotte. Same thing, it appears now a book was nowhere in sight.
So at best, all we can do is wait and see what comes of the investigation. At worst, we can believe the false narrative and incite more violence.
Well stated! Insanity!
Well stated! Insanity!
I think you’re thinking about the Charlotte case. Nobody was charging in Tulsa.
“I feel sorry for the cop but hopefully a full investigation will find the truth.”
Yeah, but she’s still alive. The “motorist” is DEAD! Justified or not, HE’S DEAD! Sure hope the investigation is on the up and up!
The last episode (first for the new season) of Blue Bloods explains this well...
“The girl cop shot him, but the person who killed him is the person who sold him the PCP. And the accessory is the family member who gave a half-blind and deaf man a vehicle to drive.”
Yes, but she’s been charged with First Degree Manslaughter, so evidently the PD and the DA see the possibility of a criminal act on the her part.
And they want to stave off riots.
“And they want to stave off riots.”
So you’re saying that she has to be charged with a first-degree felony to stave off riots even if she’s innocent? If that’s the case, I’m glad I don’t live there.
Bottom line is an accidental shooting isn’t necessarily manslaughter, an irresponsible shooting is. That’s the question the jury will have to answer, and it’s the question the media will never explain to the public.
Suicide by cop and his kids get rich. He dies a hero instead of a loser. Family gets a three-figure gofundme prize.
...
Since the officer is already charged with a serious felony, I’d say the family is going to receive multiple millions before she ever goes to trial.
That’s my point, if there was no charging, and the guy went down easy, it suggests no PCP. Though my PCP experience is limited.
bkmk
Nonsense. The perp is responsible for his own actions. He made the decision to do drugs and then disobey the lawful commands of the police officer.
Thanks for a very good posting of the insight from a LEO! He wrote the item very clearly and without any bias.
This little aside caught my eye: “...I am from Oak Cliff.”
Grew up in Oak Cliff (the oc in my user name) and fully understand his reference to street fighting! Was common behavior in the ‘40s-’50s when I was a kid, but was mostly whites on whites. ....I’m guessing the LEO grew up there in later years when after it became majority black/hispanic.
When this country repudiated and defeated the “Equal rights amendment” it basically affirmed that men and women are different in many area. Mentally ,each think differently . Physically you can actually prove the difference with empirical data. Women are vastly superior with children and shopping. Men are great hunter gatherers . When we force men to do woman’s work and push men out of jobs for lesser capable women we do a disservice to our economy and society.
There is a natural order of things and it is unnatural to have a 100 lb woman cop terrified by a 300 lb loony tune on PCP. She just panicked and went too far. A man would have not done that.
I have no way of knowing but it did seem like a rush to judgment.
I think this is an excellent piece. It rationally explains things that too many folks gloss over when deciding to vocally shoot from the hip. Highly dramatic situations are never easy for outsiders to analyze or comprehend. This officer (and editor) does an articulate job.
