Dallas Police Chief David Brown held a wide-ranging press conference on Monday, where he touched on race, the investigation and the issue of guns.
In a dramatic moment, he urged legislators to do their jobs and propose new laws to combat gun violence.
"We're doing ours. We're putting our lives on the line," Brown said. "The other aspects of government need to step up and help us."
With that, here are five pieces of audio from that press conference you should listen to....

So this Chief is suggesting that some sort of gun related law would have stopped this guy from murdering people?
Isn't murdering already illegal? Why would this guy obey a gun law if he won't obey a murder law?
This Chief is stupid. He needs to go.
>>I havent seen one person carrying a gun.<<
I have.
Nope, I heard him say that - and I immediately pressed the off button!
So, the legislators are supposed to ban piece-of-trash 1940’s SKS’s?
Except for that 110 lbs lady pumping gas in the middle of the night traveling from Houston to Dallas. Some thug three pumps over eyeballing her as his next victim...that is until she turns to place the pump handle back and the thug gets a glimpse of the .40cal Glock on her side.
God bless Texas.
Did his cop killing son use a legal gun? His son had mental problems
Oh, yes, you’re quite right. There are those occasions..
Thanks for the bringing one up.
God Bless Texas! God Bless the South!
Wrong. I prefer concealed carry, but open carry has certain advantages, too. Open carry is much faster to deploy. Most thugs looking to rob some place are looking for easy money, drugs. They aren’t looking for a deadly gunfight that they might lose, they will most likely move on to easier pickings. The exceptions are those killers who want to kill someone, and then they will attack no matter. And in that situation, open carry with faster deployment might save your life. That said, I still carry concealed unless I am just going down to the corner store from the farm here for something, in which case I just wear what I’ve been carrying here on the place.
I guess I must be a punk then.
Open your mind perhaps one inch and you will see that attacks against people who OC are rare while attacks against people who CC are quite common.
Didn’t the chief’s son die in a shoot out with cops?
I heard the chief specifically decline to get dragged into the gun control debate at least twice. He did say that the police were stuck dealing with all society’s problems, from poor education, single parent kids and mental illness. I think he was thinking on a broader basis than gun control when he made the statement in question. The press keeps trying to squeeze him into that square peg hole, but I don’t believe he’s there.
In a dramatic moment, he urged legislators to do their jobs and propose new laws to combat gun violence.

Impeach Obama.
Okay, take all the Guns from Blacks and Muslims.
If they’re Black and Muslim, deport them to D.C.
Does that help?
This is why Dallas was chosen for the murdering of officers. This idiot is in cahoots with the dems and their agenda and now this tragedy has occurred we are all supposed to give his words weight. Right out of communist playbooks everywhere. Dems are sick.
If you are referring to the killer's rifle, I think it was a Siaga AK74/AK47 variant. Having said that if you make SKSs illegal, you'll have to make almost every semi-automatic illegal, because of the SKS' limited "assault rifle features."
Now I wouldn't call an SKS "piece of trash." I own ARs, AKs and SKS rifles and all are fine for what they are designed to do. You couldn't make an SKS for less than $600 today- forged and milled receiver, chrome lined bore, etc... . A run of the mill Chinese SKS can shoot a 2" group at a 100 yds IF you use good commercial ammunition, e.g. Winchester. When you recognize that the 7.62x39 is ballistically identical to the 30-30, then the SKS is basically an modern Winchester model 94 lever action- a great deer rifle.
even when hiking and wearing OWB level 2 holster i usually have an aloha shirt covering it. The level 2 is so it stays in the holster if i slip and slide down a hill. every class i take i use my IWB at the 4 o’clock. at least 2 classes they let me draw concealed. usually i just take my outer shirt off. i can draw as fast as someone with a “normal” OWB holster. lots of practice.
You're dead wrong -- out here in the southwest it was always open carry, to the point that concealed weapons were considered evidence of ill-intent.
Actually under 100 yards it is a fine weapon. Very reliable and effective. But I do not want it banned. If it is banned only the bad guys will have it.
