Need help identifying Objet d'Art

Someone gave us this fat ceramic horse and suggested we could sell it on eBay and retire. Well, okay, maybe make a few hundred bucks.

As far as I can tell, it's a copy of the style of horse made by a Scandinavian artist named Stig Lindberg. It could be an original, but there are no markings to indicate that.

It could also be from the Bling Dynasty, judging by the garish paint job.

Most probably Asian/Chinese

That was my thought, which is why I mentioned the "Bling" Dynasty.

If you listed it on eBay, I'd suggest listing it in one of the collectible categories as 'Fat Horse pottery ugly garage sale find', just include pictures, and hopefully someone will imagine something it is not and get into a bidding war.

That's probably the best way to go. I don't necessarily want to invest a lot of time in this thing.

I recognize it.

It's a Fujimican Rialto Door Horse from the Art Emetic Period.

The maker of this rare wonder is no doubt the Apostle Zarathud the Incorrigible, Offender of the Faith:

If you look closely you'll find a hidden compartment in which was kept a copy of The Five Commandments which read as follows:

I - There is no Goddess but Goddess and She is Your Goddess. There is no Erisian Movement but The Erisian Movement and it is The Erisian Movement. And every Golden Apple Corps is the beloved home of a Golden Worm.

II - A Discordian Shall Always use the Official Discordian Document Numbering System.

III - A Discordian is Required during his early Illumination to Go Off Alone & Partake Joyously of a Hot Dog on a Friday; this Devotive Ceremony to Remonstrate against the popular Paganisms of the Day: of Catholic Christendom (no meat on Friday), of Judaism (no meat of Pork), of Hindic Peoples (no meat of Beef), of Buddhists (no meat of animal), and of Discordians (no Hot Dog Buns).

IV - A Discordian shall Partake of No Hot Dog Buns, for Such was the Solace of Our Goddess when She was Confronted with The Original Snub.

V - A Discordian is Prohibited from Believing What he reads.

Know therefore that you have come upon a mighty treasure.
One which has been sought after by at least two other people one of which was never committed to any institution for the criminally insane.

Part with it only with the greatest reluctance.
Or failing in that, at least get several bus tokens or a CTA Pass for it.

Now go forth and have a Sacred Chao tattooed on your left butt cheek.

According to the MAD TV version of the Antique Road Show, the original owner was providing services to Chinese railroad workers!

I’m pretty sure it’s African.

It is the sacred steed of Bullshiticus, patron deity of college students and government workers.

Someone peeled off the little sticker on the bottom that said “Made in China”.

I agree. The instant I saw the photo, it shouted “Chinese” to me.

I believe it was created by an artist who owned a really fat horse.

I know nothing about antigues, but I know 1) how to do simple internet searchs and 2) what I'm looking at when I find it.

The results of an image search on "ceramic horse sculpture stig lindberg" [LINK] returns a number IDed as Stigs ....but more important than the color mismatch they all have their details (saddle, straps...) painted on and not carved.

One result found on a search of just "ceramic horse" looks like a match but it's page identified it as on "Mid Century Modernist Italian Ceramic Horse" [LINK]... Here's its photo:

But again, I know nothing of antiques - authentic or ripoffs.

I found some on Ebay by Stig Lindberg that look very similar.

It’s not a draft horse...it’s a Trojan horse.

Anyone can see that. ;)
