Walmart's stock took a steep drop as the company announced that it was expecting lower profits. There are a number of problems Wal-mart has, such as its website and fulfillment not being quite as good as Amazon.com, but Wal-mart is primarily a brick and mortar store, not an internet company.
The basic problem as I see it is that middle class people are afraid to shop there. If you look at reviews on Yelp one of the most common words used to describe Wal-mart is "ghetto". There is even a Yahoo question on this very topic:
Why is every Walmart so ghetto? Why? I have never walked into any Walmart without feeling like I was going to be mugged, even in a nice area. I know the prices are very convenient, but still. I don't see why every Walmart attracts gangs, druggies, and sometimes even hookers. I've actually seen all those things at a Walmart before, including a man wearing a thong....

I do shop at Wally World on occasion, but prefer to buy from LL Bean, Lehmans, B&H Photo, NewEgg, and others that don’t push the gay mafia agenda.
I shop at mine about once a week.
I do not shop at Super Walmart the first week of the month.
Mid-second week to the third week of the month they are quieter, that’s when I’ll venture there - if needed.
We don’t have ‘ghetto’ at our Walmart. We do, however, have lots of ‘hillbilly’ but just ain’t the same, though some of them would fit in on that people of Walmart website... It’s actually pretty close to norbal. ;)
Because they're always out of .22LR when I check their ammo display case. Other calibers are coming back, but still no .22LR.
I shop there all the time. I also buy a lot from them online. Their online site is easy to use, and they are very, very quick processing and delivering your order.
We go to Walmart every so often for toiletries and a few odds and ends. Quality of the shopping experience definitely depends on the location of the store we go to.
Funny what a $45.00 annual membership fee will do to change the nature of the clientele of Sam’s sitting next next to a Walmart.
Because there is no middle class? It is the 99 and the 1%.
I shop in WalMart all the time, here in Maine.
It’s not a “ghetto” experience here. Then again, Maine is 95% - 96% white.
My local WalMart has one or two black women working there, stocking the shelves, and they work their butts off.
Hotties shop at Target. Have you seen the “people of Walmart”?
The rule of thumb for shopping at the WalMart in our 'burb is simple: DO NOT shop there on Sunday evenings. It turns into Mumbai West, and all the little "Asian" kids are allowed to run amuck. You can expect to wait in the checkout line up to 30 minutes...it's just not fun.
Eh, the Walmart close to me is not that bad, in that I don’t feel unsafe there, but I do avoid them in areas with which I am not familiar. I just don’t like how much time it takes to actually shop there, including from the time you find a parking space a hundred yards from the door, then hike to all the location of all the items you want, then wait in line to check out. It also doesn’t help that it is not uncommon to observe used baby diapers discarded on the parking lot.
1. Checkout lines are usually insanely long.
2. Messy and poorly stocked.
3. Parking lot and front of store smell like urine/3rd world country.
...with the exception of one nicer store that has great sales but is too far away for convenience
I shop at Walmart (Virginia Beach) on a fairly regular basis. My Walmart is not ‘Ghetto’ in any shape or fashion and the typical clientele is decidedly middle class. I also have been to the Walmart in Norfolk VA...that’s a much different story and I won’t go there after dark.
I guess we are the not the norm but the Wal-Mart near us is Belle Vernon, PA. It is clean and the folks working there are helpful. Lots of white trash welfare bums shopping but otherwise we shop there a few times a month. Wal-Mart prices are not always the lowest prices around too.
Hotties? You mean Tar-sjhay? I can’t stand it because everything in the décor there is commie red....it just turns me off.
Laz?
That's about it.
Time of day also makes a huge difference in what you see at Walmart.
Shop early morning, and the customers are fine. Shop after dark, and it is down right scary.
