I shop at Walmart (Virginia Beach) on a fairly regular basis. My Walmart is not ‘Ghetto’ in any shape or fashion and the typical clientele is decidedly middle class. I also have been to the Walmart in Norfolk VA...that’s a much different story and I won’t go there after dark.
The Walmart near me (Midlothian, VA next to Richmond) is fine...go there when my errand list has me picking up groceries and a few hardware or automotive items, thus avoiding two stops. Generally though I shop at Kroger’s because to my eye the prices are better for most things at my Kroger.
I go to my local Wally World (Chesapeake - Deep Creek South) when I need something NOW and the other stores are closed. It’s not a bad experience, the sales clerks will TRY to help you find what you’re looking for, but they are almost always clueless. Frankly, I don’t like the long walk through the parking lot at night (although there’s usually a police cruiser there) ....but if you’re just dropping in to pick up one or two things, it’s not unbearable.
