Good article other than blaming RR for the ascent of the Bush clan. Reagan wanted his unthreatening friend Laxalt as VP knowing if some medical event got him Laxalt would carry on his agenda. The GOP establishment pretty much threatened RR with being given the Goldwater treatment if he did include the dismal Geo Bush as Veep. Daddy Bush is well remembered in DC from when he was in Congress as being a peevish, rude, bad tempered jerk
