What happens when you feed "food experts" McDonalds?
CRASHR ^ | 10-22-14 | The Looking Spoon

Here's what "food experts" have to say when they taste McDonalds under the pretense that it's organic food. (my favorite is the woman who says it tastes "more pure")

Pretentious BS. I've thought this about so-called "foodies" for a long time now.

It's food. Sure, there's good food and bad food, but we're in a bad place when people try to over-intellectualize it the way the people above and all of these chef reality shows do. We're basically treating food the same way we do abstract art now (half the time fancy restaurants even serve plates that look like it)

If you know the language you can watch the original video here.

Epic proof that it’s mostly in your head, especially regarding food.

Indeed. And fun to prick the pretentious posers.

I’ve never understood the hostility to McDonalds

It is a real example of one of FR's favorite cliches--narcissism. People who need to feel special about themselves shore up their sagging egos by pretending to be above the ordinary. As this article and others amply reveal, the facts silently mock the pretenses.

I love it! (oops, is that their current slogan?)

This deserves to be sent on Facebook and go viral.

I raise a few of my own vegetables and buy good basic ingredients to cook everything from scratch now that I am retired. Only rarely do I find fast food or restaurant cuisine appetising. In fact, I dread eating out. And since I cook from scratch, I don’t buy much prepared food (frozen dinners or pastries) from the supermarket either.

Once I learned to cook Tex-Mex, Italian, Southern/Soul food, and other cuisines, my meals are much tastier and offer a better variety of meat (beef, chicken, pork, fish, etc.) and balance (two veggies, bread, dessert) along with an appropriate drink (water, milk, tea, coffee, beer, wine, etc). It don’t get no better. Our nation is truly blessed with an abundance and availability of good food.

I plan my menu around whatever is on sale this week at the supermarket. That may sound cheap to some, but it keeps the costs of cooking at home down. And home cooked meals are a better value than eating out if you have the time, which I know everyone doesn’t.

Search around youtube for old episodes of Penn and Teller’s Bulls*%t. There is a great episode where they do the same thing but use KFC repackaged in a fancy restaurant. The bottled water Steward is hilarious. He’s filling up bottles with fancy labels from a hose in the back of a los Angeles restaurant. Agua de Culo got very high ratings.

For the most part though this taste test was rather limited. Only one food item? But what is great about these tests is exposing how many people create a phony air of sophistication for themselves and how they convince themselves that they are “experts.”

I spent over 40 years on the road chasing oil all over the US, Canada and Mexico. My favorite places to eat were always the little Mom and Pop places. They served a meal like they were serving it to their family. Most of this time was spent in West Texas where Mexican Food is King and those little Mexican places never let me down. In many there was no menu you just ate what Mama made that day and she kept the fresh hot tortillas coming. I do at least 3 hunts a year on the ranch for Veteran’s and I always take them over to Momma Galvan’s for either lunch or supper, She has 6 tables in her place and they’re always full. When I have my Vet’s in she always reserves a table for me, she lost her first son in the first Gulf war and treats my Vets like King’s as they should be. It’s been a tradition that before we eat we take a moment to honor the son she lost whose picture hangs proudly on the wall, she cry’s every time. One by one we stop and face the picture and render a proper salute.

Funny memes...presentation is everything!

Like Walmart, McDonalds is a BIG target for a lot of people. My thoughts are various personality types feel BETTER when they have “something” they can be “against” for reasons from pretentious to petty. Personally, if you don’t “like” either corporation, don’t frequent their establishments and get along with your day dealing elsewhere.

I LIKE McDonalds. If some one would replate their premium burger and serve it as a taste test beside Red Robin, you could not tell the difference. Their coffee is excellent, and I’m not ashamed to admit that when I work late, one of their chocolate milkshakes is the bomb!

If you don’t like McDs, don’t stop there...simple enough!

I sort of agree with you. I do enjoy the Chicken wraps from time to time as well.

What I find really funny is people call it barely food...when the burger meat used is actually higher quality than the burgers(pink slime) they serve most kids at government run schools!http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/05/pink-slime-for-school-lun_n_1322325.html

After seeing that article a few years ago, I started reconsidering all this rhetoric about how bad McDonald’s etc. are reported to be.

My kids have never even had a “happy” meal.

Should I send you a few bucks so you can afford to get them one?

A snarky comment from our most humble of gunners! My day is now complete! Out of curiosity, with what gun are/were you a gunner?

A real picture of our humblegunner?! Sweet. I’m a competitive rifle shooter, and my hole punching machine of choice is my Anschutz 1913 (a hybrid).

That’s it, but I had mine painted a lovely pearlized lavender. I use aperture sights (no scope) and a hook on the butt plate as well. I life guarded and taught swimming lessons from dawn ‘till dusk the summer of 2000 to pay for that for my junior year of college. I was on the rifle team, an NCAA sport.
