Vanity: AVG threat warning (constant pop-ups from AVG)

but when I try to remove the alleged threats, I get "file can't be removed because it's critical for operating system

Avast keeps bitching at me about something called “General Crawler”, but if I select to go ahead and remove it, it refuses because when I install Avast, I always decline the browser addon dreck-ware they try to foist on you. Which in turn makes me wonder if General Crawler is a legitimate issue or just something they made up to browbeat you into taking their crapware. Anyone know?

avg was more’hedaches than it was worth. use avira plus malwarebytes. couple others periodically/as needed. no norton, no avg.

Use AVG, no problems as for malwarebytes ... it never finds anything. Run Superantispyware every day, finds and cleans things that others don’t seem to find.

I used AVG for years until they made the free version into absolute crapware in about 08. Been using primarily Avast since then, but I’m cooling to them too. What do you think about Avast?

I've had AVG (paid lic.) for a few years now. Lately I got a nasty adware/malware virus that totally hosed my system. Called AVG to have them help...NOPE!

They wanted to charge me $70.00 above what I'd already paid for my license to remove the virus.

I'm now a happy ex-AVG user. Signed up with PC-matic and so far, so good.

I stopped using AVG a couple years ago. It didn’t seem to be able to “fix” anything. Have been using the antivirus built into my Windows 7 ultimate edition. Haven’t had a lick of problems with it.

Av-comparatives.org shows it as their baseline in malware tests.

I had it on my machine. I googled it and found the fix. It’s pretty simple, but I forgot what it was. I renamed a file.

I just remembered. I have firefox. I went to program files (x86) > Mozilla Firefox > Browser > Components

And renamed the file avgMozXPCOM.js.

At least I THINK it was “js”. That’s the part of the name I changed.

not too much experience with it. since i am happy with avira and malwarebytes that’s the two i’ve kept working 24/7. iirc thenstuff i had read had these two higher than avast on user rankings.

Herdprotect to clean ur system. Hitman pro to check that ur av and anti malware stuff caught what is on ur system.

Avira or avast as your base antivirus. Don’t run more than 1 av package or you wil be eeeeexxxxxtttttrrrrreeeeemmmmmlllllyyyyy slow.

Forget AVG . Since about 08 it has been absolute memory, CPU, and disk hogging crapware.
