Run, Joe Biden, run!
Los Angeles Times ^ | 08/20/2013 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 08/20/2013 12:37:35 AM PDT by TexGrill

Not counting rumors that Anthony Weiner's marriage has hit a rocky patch, it may be the worst-kept secret in politics: Joe Biden wants to be president.

On Monday, the Wall Street Journal reported that the vice president's inner circle is swabbing the decks, battening down the hatches and hoisting the mainsails for USS Bidenpalooza 2016. "Everyone involved in his world," a Democratic official told the Journal, "is engaged in taking all the steps that make sense to prepare for a run, if he does run." Biden's people are apparently willing to go for it even if the allegedly inevitable nominee, Hillary Rodham Clinton, decides to run.

Why is this happening?

It's a difficult question to boil down to a single variable, given the swirling maelstrom of egos, agendas and issues at play. Still, one answer does seem to cover the waterfront: because ours is a just and generous God. From my admittedly selfish perspective, a Biden candidacy would be great for everybody — and by everybody I mean people who would like to see the Democratic Party descend into a chaotic food fight.

Indeed, while most of the punditocracy is obsessed with turning the mostly trivial sniping between New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) into proof of a bloody civil war on the right, the Democrats are poised to descend into a family squabble of historic proportions. It would be a lot of fun to watch.

We can all laugh at the prospects of Biden running and winning but this isn't funny at all.
Given the voting record of the electorate since 2008, ANYTHING is possible, no matter how ridiculous.

Let's not sit back and just make fun of the VP, let's do everything in our power to elect a real, serious and viable Conservative who can appeal to the masses.

Biden is a clown but then again, Obama is a community organizer and look where he is sitting today.

Please! Please!

An arrogant, dishonest, vicious, stingy, baby-killing, “Catholic” dimwit. Someone who doesn’t have a thousandth of the character or brains needed to govern wisely or well, seeking the most powerful office in the world.

A mass of delusions, including delusions of adequacy.

Please! Please! Let him be the nominee!

I can understand your sentiments and I agree with the basics of the facts you cite.

However, I say lets pick up a trick from Rules for Radicals and select Joe Biden, isolate him, and attack him with Ridicule. Short Bus Joe, Biden the Dimwitted Idiot, Clueless Joe and so on.

On every mention of him, a guffaw should be the retort. If it is concentrated enough the liberal media and the political apparatchiks will have to defend him, expend energy and time in counteracting the claims. This is the ideal thing to happen. Force the media and pundits to NOT IGNORED the elephant in the room - Biden is going to have to take on Hillary!

Right now, they are getting away with a story line that reads if there were two different upcoming races, one for Hillary, in the real world, where she gets elected President, and the other for Biden, you know - in Bizarro World, where he runs and is magically elected.

I say don’t discount him. Ridicule him, yes, but don’t discount him. Make them defend him as if he actually had some value here.

A blue screen appears and says “memory overload.” But when I do a Google image search on “Joe Biden intellectual,” my computer runs smoothly. Can other Freepers please post goofy Joe Biden pictures soon?

This electorate has shown a hard shift leftward since the last GOP White House win in 2004. As much of a joke Biden the Slow is to us he has a built-in advantage if he’s the dems’ nominee: he’s not a Republican. If somehow Hillary decides not to run (the ONLY scenario preventing her inauguration in 2017), Biden still has a much stronger chance of winning than whichever GOPer goes against him in 2016. Doesn’t mean he won’t stumble, which he likely will at some point, but out the gate, he’ll be in the stronger position.

GOPers have already blown it. Whoever gets the Democratic nomination for President in 2016, will coast to a smooth victory. But on the bright side if Biden becomes El Presidente, at least we can laugh at the clown-in-chief for 8 years.

It doesn’t matter who is up against her in the primary; she will win, period.

I still think it is worthwhile making the DNC establishment walk a slippery line defending him along with the media up until he is beaten..

It’s no longer defeatism when there’s nothing you can do to change course. I’m still pondering whether conservatives should just go ahead an join the Democrat Party to make life a little bit more annoying for Hillary. It would be humorous if we could watch Ted Cruz, Joe Brainless Biden and Hildabeast debate each other for the Democratic nomination. Wouldn’t it be a nightmare for Hillary to lose the Democrat nod in 2016 to a conservative?

The money quote:

Simply by running, Biden would contest Clinton's claim of entitlement and light a match on the Hindenburg that is her "inevitability." It would encourage others from outside the establishment to run against them both as a pair of old guard retreads who want the presidency out of a sense of entitlement.

Apart from the first sentence, I agree with everything you say.

However, I disagree that the electorate "has shown a hard shift leftward". It really hasn't. What it's shown is actually a slight shift to the right, and another shift, mostly by young voters) to Libertarian).

The "hard shift" has been to partisan identification with the Democrats, despite the inherent contradictions of doing so while holding contrary (Conservative/Libertarian vs. Liberal-Progressive) views.

This is due to the solidification of Identity Politics.

A heck of a lot of people are no longer voting (or in the case of the young voter. never did to begin with) Republican because they're Conservative and the GOP is more closely aligned to Conservative views/values than the Dems are. They're voting Democrat because _________ (fill in whatever demographic group - Black, Hispanic, young people - fits here) vote Democrat and they're a ____________.

It's no longer about policy and the direction of the nation, and all about branding and marketing. And the Dems are CRUSHING Republicans on that.

No, Biden isn’t worth it, but if you think Hillary wants a contest with him, you’re mistaken. She and the Grifter are not about competition - only when they have to.

As for Biden, you have to remember that he is a sitting VP and Obama PICKED HIM! He’s walkin’ a fine line here. He cannot endorse Hillary until she’s beaten Biden, and he can’t really say anything bad about Biden until he loses.

Obama doesn’t like Hillary at all. Nor does he like Biden, but he is a fool’s fool and is easily controllable by Obama and him on the ticket did help him win.

Obama is making sure he doesn’t have anything to do right now, so he’s just, well, there. He can’t all of a sudden in this next year endorse Hillary and crap all over Biden - he picked him - the ONE picked him! About the only thing he could do is to convince Biden not to run, but he’s too stupid and too egotistical and mean to do anything not for himself.

Conservatives won’t succeed by starting a 3rd Party. You got the GOPer establishment, Chubby Christie, Juan McCainer and Linda Graham Crackers calling conservatives ‘Wacko Birds.’ Besides the US will soon be a one-party country just like China. So go ahead and join the Democrats to stir up some trouble as a conservative. And if Democrats omplain just say that donkeys call themselves tolerant and want an “open tent, so we’re setting up camp.”

Like a house that has been let go for so long it is not reparable, but can only be torn down, this country has had it. At this point, might as well help push the country, or what is left of it, over the edge. Biden would help do that. Who is John Galt.

Lissen, in my new job as janitor (part-time) at DNC HQ, I has reported many a time that the ticket in 2016 is gonna be:

Joey Plugs: Pres
Mama Obama: Veep

According to the top-secret memo I saved from a wastepaper basket, Plugs' medical report predicts his demise (infected plugs) two days after Inauguration Day. Leaving Mama Michelle as your new POTUS. (There is a back-up demise plan 'B' in case the old fella lingers on.)

The campaign strategy is simple. Mama Obama will begin divorce proceedings against Kid Kenya at the beginning of the campaign, citing Reggie Love as co-respondent. The resulting Oprah-led wave of sympathy, including a pome by Maya Angelou will get the ticket 104% of the female vote. Joey Plugs will get everyone else an Obamaphone and increase EBT to $500 a month for every one, pay off foreclosures, forgive student loans, and extend unemployment benefits to 10 years. Congress, (the Dems having swept in in '14) will help the DNC register 40 million new Mexican voters.

The Republicans in 2016 will be split: Christie and Mitt, Dole and McCain, Romney and Trump, Palin and Bachmann, Jeb and Geraldo, Cruz and Rubio, will divide 25% of the vote.

I gotta go now. I am looking through more wastebaskets to find the Homeland Security Insurrection Suppression Plan.

One day, I met a girl named Sue.

She was feeling kind of blue.

I'm Dandy, the kind of guy

Jim Dandy to the rescue!

Jim Dandy to the rescue!

Go, Jim Dandy! Gooooooo!

I was riding on a submarine

Got a message from my mermaid queen.

She was hanging on a fishing line.

Mr. Dandy didn't waste no time!

Jim Dandy to the rescue!

Go, Jim Dandy! Go, Jim Dandy!

Once upon a time, I went to Maine.

Got a ticket on a DC plane.

Mr. Dandy didn't need no chute!

I was high and ready to boot!

Democrats could really Mess with Texas by selecting either the San Antonio Mayor or Wendy Davis as the Democrat nominee for the White House. If Wendy Davis defeats Greg Abbot in the Texas Governor’s race, she could be the replacement for Hillary. Some say Davis winning in Texas is a fat chance, but I’m not so sure. Abbott is afraid to debate his opponents, his recent TV interviews have been dismal and he’s not running an inspiring campaign. Abbott is not battle-scarred either in his political career. He’s always had smooth rides when campaigning for Texas AG. You can’t just sit on a pile of money and campaign. That’s what Romney did and he lost big-time.
