Arguing that we must protect members of the ruling class from assaults by the governed, Representative Peter King (R-NY) says he will introduce legislation that would make it a federal crime for anyone to possess a firearm within 1,000 feet of a government official.
We cant abide having a member of Congressa person installed in a position of authority by voters at a cost of millions of dollars in campaign expendituresstruck down by the actions of an angry or crazed citizen like Jared Loughner, King averred. This imperils our political system in a way we cannot tolerate.
The prospect that such a law could ensnare gun owners with no malicious intent didnt faze King. People must learn to be aware of their surroundings, King contended. Recognizing elected officials and keeping an appropriate distance if you are carrying a weapon isnt too much to ask.
Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) praised Kings initiative, but said it doesnt go far enough. The notion that anyone other than government law enforcement should be allowed to own or carry a firearm is the problem. Once we outlaw the private ownership of guns well have greatly simplified the issue. We wont have to measure distances or deal with the whole self-defense excuse. Everyones defense will be provided by duly authorized government personnel. Everyone else with a gun will be, ipso facto, a criminal. The battle line will be more clearly drawn and more easily enforced.

Geeez, did he really say ruling class? That makes my guts turn over in my belly.
Arogance at its finest.

I’d like to see a bill that makes it illegal for politicians to come within a mile of normal Americans. Two miles if they have their hand out.
BLOAT! We did.
Once again you wrote a good one
How about introducing this - Make it a Federal Crime for any Government Official to come within 1000 of someone in legal possession of a firearm.
We cant abide having a member of Congressa person installed in a position of authority by voters at a cost of millions of dollars in campaign expendituresstruck down...”
Another good one, John! Thanks!
This is a good idea. And when there are two protected Federal people together, the keep-away distance should be 2000 feet. When the House is in full session, the gun free zone should be 435,000 feet, or 82 miles. And for SOTU, even more.
To help us recognize the protected people, we need to attach a strobe to their highest point, usually the head. An aircraft strobe beacon should do it. A loud audio chirper can be used that goes BEEP every fifteen minutes will help those visually impaired or people around the corner. Perhaps a runner that precedes the protected one with a different color strobe hat and big sign, so that we’ll know to get ourselves out of the way lest we get apprehended, arrested, arraigned, jailed, lose our jobs and sell our homes for legal fees should we actually exercise our right to be armed within Garand range of these people.
Good job, John...again. I also loved the article about Sheriff Doofus.
OUTRAGEOUS BTTT !!......:o)
Yet hard to see the line there John.
Stay safe !
“Two miles if they have their hand out.”
They don’t have their hands out - that’s for beggars - the ruling class goes directly for your wallet!
“Representative Peter King (R-NY) says he will introduce legislation that would make it a federal crime for any Moslem to possess a goat within 1,000 feet of a government official.”
Didn’t the Pubbies say that new Legislation must have constitutional cover upon introduction. King thinks he really be a King, Ruling class, My A$$, why is he in the house of Commons and not in the house of Lords. We don’t have 57 states and we don’t have a RULING CLASS!
The new law should mandate that every breathin’ ass carry a gun.Wild west? What have you got now?
