Dear Friends of Terri:

On October 20, 2003, Michael Schiavo offered his comments about Terri in an article published by the Tampa Tribune.

I have compiled a review from Terri's medical records of how the facts were actually stated by Terri's health care providers versus the false statements made by Michael Schiavo.

What you are about to read depicts the lies from Terri's estranged husband as he has consistently portrayed them in the Florida courts in order to rationalize HIS desires to cease all of Terri's therapies and to remove her feeding tube and have her die by starvation and dehydration.

I warn you that what you are about to read is not only sad, but extremely tragic.

Every day that Terri is forced to remain under the guardianship of Michael Schiavo, she is deprived of the many available therapies due her and her life remains in constant jeopardy.

Last Wednesday, my wife's feeding tube was removed. For over 6 years, I have struggled with the Schindlers in court. On Wednesday, I joined them in grief. I understand what the Schindlers are going through at this time. I feel the same loss.

For years after this happened to Terri, I tried desperately to find a cure for her. I went from one doctor to another.

Almost all of them told me there was no possibility she would recover.

FACT - 05/20/1990 ---DR. NEWHART-- The brain cells that control body function were not as seriously affected as initially diagnosed Consequently, it is anticipated that Terri should regain full use of her body.

FACT - 06/27/1990 ---- DR. BARAS-- had been seen by me at College Harbor and started to make improvement. Started to show some vocalization where she will say "no" and occasionally has some voluntary movement on command of eyes and mouth as reported by husband and mother.

FACT - 06-28-1990 --- DR. THACKER Moaning type vocalizations initially; no sign of excess secretions requiring frequent suctioning; intermittently swallows, probably swallows her saliva without any trouble.

FACT -- 07-10-1990 ---- DR. BARAS --Purposeful movement in right upper extremity as seen by P.T. O.T. and me Flexing right elbow not as a reflex, but voluntarily.

FACT-- 08/25/1990 DISCHARGE SUMMARY FROM BAYFRONT MEDICAL. Patient did show some improvement in range of motion.

FACT -- 01/01/1991 PHYSICAL THERAPY _EVAL---Turns head from noxious stimuli.

FACT -- 01/29/1991---- DR. ALCAZARAN --Meadowbrok California. Noted increased alertness, turns head toward voice, turns head from tactile stimulation. sucking, and rooting response to olfactory stimulation. spontaneously vocalied. Good cough. Some visual tracking.

FACT- - 02-1/1991 ---Physical Therapy Notes -- Alert throughout treatment session, responds to pain, moaning, turns head from noxious stimuli.

FACT-- 02/15/1991 --- PSYCHOLOGY NOTES WRITTEN BY PATTI SHOOK ---Terri's eye opening responses were her strongest. Terri's tactile responses were her best, with other four modalities only 1 to 2 points behind. This level of functioning is appropriate for a sensory stimulation program.

FACT-- 02/1/1992--THERAPEUTIC NOTES BY SHERRI LAGE --Patient appeared to focus on several pictures of family for 10 seconds, appeared to slightly track to left each session, but inconsistent Quick startle response to all auditory stimuli, occasionally moves head from tactile stimuli.

FACT -- 02/20/1991-- PHYSICAL THERAPY NOTES -- Patient has made significant gains since admission in all areas of range of motion.

FACT -- 03/19/1991--- SPEECH LANGUAGE NOTES -- Occasionally responds to request to verbalize, swallow and move arms.

FACT -- 06/17/1991 --- TREATMENT PLAN REVIEW -- Vocalizing when prone in PT., occasionally will say "stop" to nurse doing procedures.

Michael Schiavo's statement, "Any doctor that gave me a glimmer of hope that some new treatment or therapy would work was given free reign with Terri. I would do anything to make her well."

FACT-- 3/26/1991 ---Nurses Notes--- Terri's side rail on her bed found down after Michael left. When told about it, he replied that "that was their job.

FACT -- 1993 CAROLYN JOHNSON-- No therapy per husbands orders. Dr's orders over ridden. Patient kept in isolation, no stimulation.

FACT-- APRIL 1995-JULY 1996 -- CARLA SAUER AFFIDAVIT MICHAEL ORDERS NO REHAB; NO RANGE OF MOTION;NO NOTHING.

PATIENT ALERT AND ORIENTED, SPOKE REGULARLY "MOMMA, "MOMMY' "HELP ME"

Michael stated, "I took Terri to California. I stayed with her while doctors performed an experimental procedure to implant electrodes in her brain to stimulate its function. I spent months working with her -hopeful of a cure. Months later, the doctors told me the electrodes were not working."

"I took Terri to Mediplex, in Bradenton, Florida, which is a residential rehabilitation facility that specializes in brain injuries. She spent months there in intensive physical, speech, and occupational therapy and testing."

"Finally, the doctors and therapist told me and the Schindlers they could do nothing more for her. I hired a private duty aide 8 hours a day to take Terri on outings to parks and museums trying to stimulate her - looking for any sign of life, any flicker of hope. There was none - ever."

FACT 03/15/1991 Therapeutic notes Laura Mizell -- Patient has displayed an increase in eye opening since last 30 day summary, Patient responses to auditory stimulation are at the point that they are almost auditorily defensive. During recent outings, rugby games kept eyes closed to and from game...beach visit she was more aroused.

FACT 03/11/1991 Summary of all departments--- 2 point increases in vocalization and eye opening, motor responses. Tactile increased 3 points. Overall her general responsiveness score increased slightly from 19 to 23.

Michael stated, "Over the years, I had three swallowing tests performed on Terri in the hope that some of the therapies would allow her to be weaned off the feeding tube. The test all showed no change, and I was advised she could not swallow food. Even now, the nursing home staff says that sometimes Terri gags and chokes on the moisture from the swabs they use to moisten her lips."

FACT--March to mid summer 1997 -- Heidi Law Affidavit -- Patient did not like the taste of the teeth cleaning swabs or mouthwash. Did like the smell and feel of her lotion. Liked to have her hair combed. Did not like being tucked in. She would suck on ice chips and swallow ice water, orange juice or apple juice in her washcloth to give her something nice to taste, which made her happy. On three or four occasions, I personally fed Terri small amounts of Jello which she was able to swallow and enjoyed immensely.

Michael Schiavo stated, "The reports you heard from nursing home aides that Terri was responsive years ago are not true. I would give anything if they were."

4/16/1991 -- BECAME EVERY EXCITED, CRIED, FACIAL EXPRESSION, TEARS, WHINING.

4/17/1991 -- SITTING IN A CHAIR, HOLDING LEGS TOGETHER, HOLDING HER OWN HEAD UP, RESPONSE TO EVERY NOISE SHE HEARS, TASTED EXTRACTS, SWALLOWED. MIXED UP DAYS AND NIGHTS

4/25/1991 MS TALKING TO HER, SHE THEN LIFTED HEAD OFF AND AWAY FROM CHAIR. I ASKED HER IS SHE WANTED TO GET UP. SHE NODDED. I ASKED HER A MINUTE LATER, SHE DID THE SAME MOTION.

4/26/1991 JOHN (NURSE) SAYS EVERY TIME HE IS HERE TERRI SQUEEZES HIS HAND WHEN ASKED.

5/1/1991 - LAST FEW DAYS TERRI HAS BECOME A LITTLE MORE ALERT. SHE WILL MOVE HER HEAD FROM SIDE TO SIDE. WHEN OUT IN WHEELCHAIR, SHE WILL HOLD HER OWN HEAD UP FOR THE PERIOD SHE IS OUT. STILL MIXES UP DAYS AND NIGHTS.

5/2/1991- ASLEEP, SEEMS TO DO A LOT OF DREAMING, HEAD WILL MOVE BACK AND FORTH, TOES, LEGS,ARMS,FINGER, ETC WILL DO ALOT OF MOVING. TERRI DOES REAL WELL WITH HER EARLY MORNING STROLL.

SHE WILL HOLD HER OWN HEAD UP (UNLESS SHE FALLS ASLEEP) SHE WILL WATCH ALL THE NURSES DO THEIR THING.

1992

Aug - Terri awarded $250,000 in malpractice settlement. Nov - Terri awarded $1.4 million in malpractice trial. Nov - Michael Schiavo awarded $600,000 in malpractice trial.

1993

Feb - Michael Schiavo denies Terri recommended rehabilitation treatment.

Terri Schaivo has been in a coma for the last 15 years in Florida. Her case has been the subject of an ongoing legal dispute between her husband and her parents. I do not know who requested the information on her husband but it most definitely was not Terri.

Well , I took an interest in this case, since I saw this message board. I just saw an article that Gloria Allred /Alrad ( An Attorney) however her name is spelled, has deposited 1,000,000 dollars in her lawfirms bank account which came from an undisclosed businessman . the 1,000,000 dollars has MICHAELS name all over it ,all he must do is turn the care of his wife over to the Schindler's ( Terri's paternal parent's) .


So Michael if you read this ,let me ask ..What do you really have to lose? From what I have learned about this case ...You feel Terri wouldn't want to live this way ( She has a feeding tube that feed's her 3 times a day and that is her only assistance she needs medically) You feel she is brain dead......I do see her communicating with Doctor's and her relatives on live video footage.... I see her communicate with people better then some people who have M.S ! But putting all that aside ~ Totally do not understand .... ) Why not just take the money and let your new partner and kids enjoy the rest of their lives? Look how many people you'd make happy by doing this !


Terri is happy ...you can see it every time she smiles ..people have the ability to compensate for whatever life deals them ..Terri compensated ! The doctor who asked Terri to open her eyes to show she knew what he was saying . When I saw Terri OPEN HER EYES AS WIDE AS SHE COULD...SHE ALSO LIFTED HER EYEBROWS AS AN EXTRA MEASURE , JUST IN CASE THERE WAS ANY CONFUSION ~ that said HEY ...if you don't think tis is enough ,look at this! That showed me all I needed ...

This is John Hood - lets set the record straight - I was disturbed to see that someone would take advantage of this forum and attempt to deceive Michael's friends into providing information for who knows what use. I allowed Scott, Michael's brother, to reply through my account his "regards" to the message posted illegally (?) in an account supposedly created by Michael (doubtful) and written by Michael's wife (impossible)

Who wrote that message...First they assumed the identity of someone who is completely incapacitated and could never have requested information, Second, they created an account for Michael under false pretenses (or got into his account somehow), Third, they are being incredibly under-handed in their attempts to acquire personal information that can be used in what I'm sure would be a negative way.

Considering the Schiavo's have been personal friends for decades, I think they deserve some respect and consideration in what I'm sure is unbelievably tramatic for all involved -

There is certainly more than what we have heard or have read - but this situation is for those directly involved, those knowing the truth and those who have communicated their wishes and desires - it isn't our place to suggest direction or help in those decisions, rather, we should be grateful we are only observing it and not living it.

The Schiavo family has always been compassionate and honest as long as I've known them - when this has run it's course, we will all have our own personal opinion & they will live with their personal decisions.

Personally, I feel deceitful attempts to gather information is an invasion of their privacy and it's a matter that they need to address - and have.

Thanks for sharing your insights. I actually paid money to join this damn list because I was so angry that someone would get on this message board under false pretenses. It is incredibly deceitful and dishonest. I responded before I saw Scott's comments already setting the record straight.

As a lawyer, I'd followed the case (it has received lots of media attention here in the deep South)- and so was appalled that someone would so cavalierly use her name in this way.

Anyway, I'm sorry that someone would be so underhanded in what I can only imagine has been an emotionally devastating situation for the Schaivo family. And I hope that whoever keeps using this as a forum to solicit information or express opinions will allow them the privacy they so richly deserve. May you never be placed in similar circumstances.

This is public information ...most people have heard of what is going on .....The really SAD part though ,is that the REAL facts are NOT known by many (ie) John Hood's Statements , contrasting the fact that WE don't know the REAL FACT's . Yes many don't know the real facts of this case ...The bone scans where injuries were sustained 18 months prior to her collapse .... The Doctor's statemnts that these injurie's that did not occur at the same time as they were injurie's healing at differnet stages and that the only way to have susatined these injuroe's were to be hit by a mack truck or physical abuse/ trama .... These bone scans can be found ( THE ORIGINAL SCANS) Dr. statement's ect ... from Terri's support website .

Scott , it is THIS type of information that NEEDS to be addressed and yes I can see your effort's to keep such info private ,however when we see that Michael's incessant effort's to make sure TERRI is out of the picture ...along with the Nurses' statments that Michael in fact would be outraged if anything was done for terri ,besides the minimal care ...feeding tube ~ well we ALL must ask ourselves...Scott , with all due respect ...


Would you want your loved one to see sunshine? I mean if they were dehabilitated ,would not ANYTHING that brightened theri exsistance be too much ...something as free as fresh air and sunshine .... The list of Michaels restrictions for Terri is too long ...Restrictions that were obvioulsy placed not in the best interest for TERRI ...This is all too apparent ...Freash air and sunshine ..AGAIN are free ...Tell Michael to give one GOOD EXCUSE for that restriction on TERRI... I'd love to hear it!

***** 15 years IS a long time ....And if TRULY I felt such sorrow for my ailing spouse ...Would I not ALLOW every sort of medical effort to HELP or PREVENT futher deterioration and suffering of their condition? Would I not allow the simplest of lifes pleasure...Clean FRESH AIR and SUNSHINE? Having their teeth taken care of ...letting a nurse place a cloth in between my spouses clenched hands ? ALLOW a nurse to let them sip of some juice from a cloth as I can see how much they enjoyed this ... Allow the family to place pictures in their room .... Let the nurses move their limbs daily as often as needed.... God I could go on and on from the RECORDS I have read ...So 15 years have gone by and all I can see is that Michael has worked extremely ..Feverently ...crazily ...making sure that her death sentence is finished off !! Why did michael tell the Schindlers that if they let the video's of Terri go public he would not let them visit their daughter ...??? WHY ~! because then the world would see that she is not in the vegatative state he'd like us to beleive ..because we would SEE that Terri doe's have desire's that she trie's to convey to the best of her ability ..DESPITE Whatever PUT her in this condition ..?

That is right, I believe that there are grounds to charge that creep with the murder of his wife.

Cheryl did a good job pointing out the many lies in Michael's statment, and contrasting what had been said or written that contradict him yet again.

Now, what has come to light, through the release of those documents from DCF is further proof of the lies told by Michael Schiavo.

Oh yes, many say that these documents prove that the complaints were groundless. I say that two complaints, against the Schindlers were groundless. However, there was definite substance in other complaints that were not properly investigated when the complaints were made.

I draw attention to a complaint that was made by staff at Morton Plant Hospital in 2003. Terri was admitted to the hospital suffering from a UTI. Michael had her discharged before the antibiotics could be effective. Her health deteriorated and she was returned to hospital. The complainant stated that Terri was awake and cognizant. In other words the medical staff attending to her at Morton Plant are contradicting the media story that Terri was in a coma and had been that way since 1990. The complainant put in the report to DCF because Michael was attempting to discharge his wife from the hospital again against their advice. He was attempting to deny her access to antibiotics and treatment for the following conditions: UTI, pneumonia, kidney stones and blood sepsis.

Once again we have evidence of Michael contradicting himself by what he did at Morton Plant Hospital. During the 2000 trial when he admitted to attempting to make Terri pass on by denying her antibiotics, he said that he would not do that again. Here is further proof that he lied under oath and has committed perjury.
