Thanks for the memories, but it's time for Christians to unite not fight

Thank you Free Republic for allowing me to post and vent on this site for over ten years. I am a young, married conservative woman who is trying to raise her daughter to be a fine, upstanding lady, an educated woman and a worthy wife to a decent man. Despite the stupidity of my generation (I am on the cusp of GenX and GenY) there is hope. Many young people are more prolife than ever. And at last, many others are beginning to open their eyes to the lies of socialism.

However recent events on this site like witnessing the discord between fellow believers of Christ and how the Religious moderators have given carte blanche to those who wish to spread hate is not something I want to be part of.

I received this message from the Religion Moderator regarding Key words received 03/02/2015 8:45:19 PM PST

“DO NOT use keywords to snipe at other posters or beliefs. RM”

I certainly did not post key words that sniped at anyone; they were terms such as "enough already,” “Christianity,” “unity” and "peace." Now, yes, the comments I made were invectives thrown at posters. I don't deny that; but they deserved every word directed at them and more. Outside of Caucus threads the religious forum is based on sniping at posters and insulting other's beliefs. Mostly it’s a few alleged “Evangelicals” damning those Papists, pedophiles, pagans, cracker-eaters, cannibals and Mary-worshipping heretics to Hell if they don't convert to the Western Branch of American Reform Presbylutheranism or the Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879. Then a very small contingent of Catholics tries to fight back.

These are the kind of comments are allowed on the religious forums without any moderation.

"I believe that Catholicism has caused more people to go to hell then [sic] Islam."

AND

**Have you accepted the Catholic Church** "I have accepted Jesus. Not some abomination created by man."

I have no skin in this game other than to realize that Christians (and Jews) are not each other’s enemies. There is a much more diabolical force in this world that should be fought. Anti-theists, Islamists, secular amoralists, etc., they're nothing. But, hey, keep going after Catholics and Mormons because they're the ones ruining the world today!

I said those words because it was the truth, (a truth that many others see but do not mention; they merely avoid the conflicts). If the anti-Catholic delusional bigots have a problem with the truth, then a pox on their houses.

I have posted on and off this site for over ten years. Every time I come back here I think to myself, “Wow, FR is one of the only sites telling it like it is when it comes to politics!” But then the OCD religious posters take control over and over again. It’s not just the religious forums, but they’re the worst. In the past the moderation was far more even-handed. Now it’s out of control. Please use more judiciousness in moderating them in the future.

You are losing members left and right and your fundraisers take months to complete. I am aware that the owner of this site, Mr. Robinson, is a Catholic, and I’m sure it breaks his heart to see such infighting amongst fellow Christians. I hope his health betters and that he can continue to fight the goof fight.

Nevertheless, FR's days as a premium conservative site are over. There a quite a few decent folks around here like Mrs. Don-0, xzins, Morgana, miss marmelstein, wardaddy, that fellow named something like yefrugeturbrumuy, and lots of others. There are many good folks with diverse opinions and no malice in their hearts.

But some others seem possessed by other-world forces. Mostly they're old people scared of death, wanting to make sure they get in with God before the end, desperate to hold on to every penny they've ever come across, willing to kvetch about the future and frequently mentioning how glad they'll be when they're dead and won't have to deal with this world, while their children and grandchildren will. Or worse, they actively wish for the world to end today or soon. Sorry, I'm young enough to have a smidgen of hope despite the moral disaster this world is in.

The Apple squabbles, the griping about TV and art, heck even the "my candidate is better than your candidate" bloodletting is nothing compared to the nutters that run rampant on the religion forum.

So Religious moderator, if you thought my key words were examples of “sniping,” then I suppose this post was outright bashing. Every time I come to this site I get angry. Anger opens up the heart to dark forces; it’s best not to be part of that.

Got to go. May peace come to this once wonderful site and make it a place of harmony for future posters.

Eh, I was going to say something snarky to you CB, but realized that would be going back on the promise I made to myself to let the anger go. In my exasperation I failed to follow proper netiquette.

I said goodbye to this thread and goodbye to FR, but allow this diva to make one final encore. That last part was a tongue-in-cheek comment. It’s ok to smile and laugh at ourselves. It’s also good to be humble. ;-)

Just a few hours ago, my baby sister (aged 29) gave birth to her second child, a healthy baby boy. Seeing that precious new life brought tears to my eyes.

For over 13 years my daughter was alone with no siblings (I can conceive, but my body fails at pregnancy) and no cousins. Now has she has 7 cousins, all born within the last three years! 5 of those cousins were born to my Catholic siblings, and another is on the way.

I thank God for life and for the opportunity to begin things anew. I thank God for the blessings of family and love. I thank God for all the wonder and beauty in this conflicted world. Please remember Christ’s true love for all of us when you post and the Holy Wisdom we need to understand on another.

Peace.

You said ... “Oh it’s more than a blood sport. We’re talking eternity. Christ didn’t allow false teaching without condemning it and neither will I.”

You’ve got that right!

Well, keep up your blood sport. Running “heretics” off of FR, spamming and vicious rhetoric really make converts.

>>Eh, I was going to say something snarky to you CB<<

Ain't no sense in snarky. At least not on a personal level. Congrats to your sister! She may have just had it planned with a your daughter as the baby sitter ya know! Jis kiddin.

As far as the contention in these threads. Look at it this way. I'm near 70 years old. Had polio when I was 2 so have never been able to do what most people do. But I was blessed by God to have been born to parents who put Christ first in their life. One of the first things I remember the pastor in the church we attended saying was "scripture is God's word, not what I say or what any other man says".

With that said, take a look at your 13 year old daughter as she gets closer to dating age. Suppose she meets some really nice guy but his religion is Islam. Do you love your daughter enough to warn her of the error of Islam? Suppose she says that just like your magisterium teaches something not in scripture the Imams teach what the prophet Mohamed said. If you claim what the magisterium has added is correct and she says what Mohamed added is correct what is going to be your base for indisputable infallibility?

You and I both agree that what we read in scripture is God's infallible word. I would think that you and I both agree that it would not be loving to not warn your daughter about Islam. We now come down to which "men" she is going to listen to. Is it the men of the magisterium or Mohamed and the Imams. I chose God's word in scripture alone and look at all people as that 13 year old daughter or my own 3 children.

Look honestly at my posting history. It's teaching other than what Christ and the apostles taught that I contend with. Just as you would care about the eternal future of your daughter I care about the eternal future of those who have fallen for the false teaching of beliefs not taught by Christ and the apostles.

Well, Cynical, if you replied to each and every Catholic in the way you just did to this young lady, you’d make a lot more friends here than foes. Think about it.

I’ll try harder. But Christ sometimes said “love one another” and at other times called those who taught error vipers and making their followers more of the devil then they were. It’s a fine line sometimes!

There are no vipers here. Even if you think they are misguided, they are obviously decent Americans deserving of respect. But I appreciate your candor!

>>There are no vipers here.<<

Christ was talking to the Pharisees at the time. Those who imposed laws and restrictions not from God. Those who expected the people to abide by the laws but didn't themselves. I'll leave you to determine if there are any of those around.

>>Even if you think they are misguided, they are obviously decent Americans deserving of respect.<<

This may come across as harsh but scripture teaches that we are not to even wish them well.

2 John 1:10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. 11 Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work.

Christ and the apostles didn't treat anyone who taught other than what they taught with respect thinking they were "decent human beings".

No one is teaching here - just exchanging opinions.

Sad, this moment of peace and understanding only lasted about two hours.

Ditto. Why waste the time God gave us where we are not respected or wanted? The few, the nasty, the heretical apostates have spewed their venom here. There are many better places for both political activism and religious conversation.

Nope, nasty, vicious blood libels against the Catholic faith are allowed. Even encouraged. So, vale.

Great post that adds understanding to why I try NOT to post on the religion threads. I’ve seen comments that no one would ever say face-to-face to another human being.

If I see the post is in the Religion Forum, I generally avoid it or just lurk. Some of the most vicious posts and posters I have seen on this forum are there.

No one will convince me that their version of the loving Saviour is better by being snide and attacking me for something people affiliated with my Church did 500 years ago or diff3erences in perceived beliefs. If they believe I worship a statue, I can't prove the negative I know to exist, and really won't waste my time bothering to attempt to disavail them of their erroneous notions which will continue to be held no matter what I say, especially when the Moderation in that venue is so one-sided.

When all this is over, it will come down to a matter of each person's relationship with their Creator, not quibbling over how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

Good to see you narses. Unfortunately you are correct. The heretics have so soiled and poisoned the religion forum that it is beyond redemption, and has driven off most of the intelligent committed Christians. A damn shame, but the foregone conclusion given its biased “moderation” practices.

The whole “Religion Forum” idea was a bad idea from day one, but few were willing to speak up at the time. Conservatism by its nature is Christian; banishing religious discussions to a religion forum ghetto was always doomed to degenerate into what we see now.

I would disagree, and for this reason. If you closed that forum, what then?

Like the community which closes the nastiest 'dive' bar in town because of its unseemliness, only to find the customers now scattered through more respectable establishments, you might find that a bad idea.

It is a good corral for those who would be so contentious and gives them a place to attack each other. The entire site benefits.

"Now, yes, the comments I made were invectives thrown at posters. I don't deny that; but they deserved every word directed at them and more."

"I guess *Father forgive them for they know not what they do* and turning the other cheek weren't options, were they? Speaks volumes to think that others deserve nasty treatment."

Pot meet kettle.

What invectives have I thrown at other posters?

Could you point me to the personal attacks I’ve made towards others?

My grandpa used to say, “What Sam says about Harry says more about Sam than Harry.” This is the attitude I’ve taken with the anti-Catholic bigotry. What they say about fellow Christians says more about their faith than mine (as of Easter Vigil). The Commies say, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” This reminds me of the lack of consistent moderation on the threads, and why I should belong to a site that promotes this. If you know of sites that are like what FR used to be, please private message me.

Narses, good to see you back for a bit.

Take a look at #139, which pretty much says what I think.

Your contributions to the religion threads have been valuable over the years, as have your pings. I agree that the Religion Moderators, or at least some of them (I’ve no idea who is who) seem to love anti-Catholic bigotry.

Well, by all means come back again, and do what you can. When I say my prayers, I often put in a few words for the anti-Catholic bigots here in the Forum, hoping that God will work on them, that they will begin to get a bit uncomfortable with their bigotry, and maybe become real Christians instead of bigots. Or even convert—but that’s up to them and to God.

I spent a good deal of time working with Evangelicals while I was a college Professor. We agreed to disagree on some points, but to work together where we agreed. And, confronted by all the evils dominating America today, there is plenty to agree on, one would think. Why waste time on all this pointless bigotry? That’s not what Free Republic is about.
