Russian Nuclear Suitcase
Sam Donaldson Sunday Talk Show
Posted on 10/10/2001 7:47:42 AM PDT by Peach
The Chair and Co-Chair of the Intelligence Committee were on the Sam Donaldson show on Sunday and both stated they have evidence of Russian nuclear suitcases in the U.S. I don't know how to get a transcript of the show but have been surprised this was not discussed here at FR.
This morning on Fox between 8:00-8:30 a.m. EST, a reporter commented that the leak to the Washington Post was NOT about military movement or strategy but was about a credible threat against the United States. My guess is that the information that was leaked had to do with a nuclear attack against the US and the threat is linked with the discussion on the Sam Donaldson show about Russian nuclear suitcases.

This nuclear suitcase crap has got out of hand, it sure isn't a suit case as in double breasted the dam thing would weight over 700 lbs. try carrying that around for awhile.

In any case, they'd check it thru the X Ray at Colorado Springs.

Soviets made over 148 of them.
Russians 'lost' 100 of them.
Around 16 K-ton each. :-(
(as I'm led to believe)

Newsweek also refers to these Russian nuclear suitcases. Don't be misled by the name. Deliver by cropduster or truck would be more effective than you imagine. BTW, on another thread they are reported to weigh 200 lbs. And, no one is suggesting they have come into the country by commercial airliner. I guess you just believe the Chair and Co-Chair of our Intelligence Committee are lying to us. It wouldn't be the first time but given that NATO is patrolling the eastern coast for the first time in our history, and that Cheney has been in a secure location since Sunday, I think this threat is being taken very seriously.

Wouldn´t they be really old by now? Don´t they need a lot of maintenance? Is there any basis in reality to this? and if so..what are they waiting for?

Didn't the Cox commission report back in '99 refer to this and other cached weapons in the US and NATO nations? If true, it kinda shines a whole new light on what could go wrong, eh?

The Davy Crockett was an interesting weapon. The blast radius was *greater* than the weapon's range. SOP was apparently to dig a large hole next to the weapon, pull the trigger and then try to dive into the hole before the detonation ...

Actually, they weigh in at roughly 150 pounds if you take into account the amount of fissionable material, and the explosives as well as the casing and electronics. They are more appropriately called "back pack nukes" rather than "suitcase nukes".
In any case, they aren't 16 kt either, they are between 1-3 kt and would be used to... oh, say, destroy large buildings, kinda like they did when they used two large airplanes. Folks, weapons of mass destruction have ALREADY been used. They will probably be used again. Those who wish to off-handedly point out "it ain't gonna happen and you people are 'panicing' for no reason" are being "unreasonable".
I don't see any of you saying "They DID NOT fly two air planes into the World Trade Center! That was a media plot!" - It's BS to think that the unthinkable won't happen any more. Go ahead, keep calling us "loonies" and "conspiracy theorists". We've been right, you've been wrong. Wake the hell up.

There have been several shows I have caught about this subject over the years. One played only a couple of weeks before Sept 11. It seems that there were once many of these Soviet suitcase nukes in the USA possessed by sleeper families. A large number, approximately 150 went missing WORLDWIDE, as I assume the family teams did as well. Whether or not our spies got their spys we can not be told. Whether or not someones elses spys got to them first we will not know until it is too late. Neither will we know whether or not our capitalist values got into the hearts and souls of these Soviets and they sold their suitnukes to the highest bidder to achieve the so called 'American Dream' of becoming rich. So, why even worry?
P.S. The ones they showed on the tube were about 18 inches by 24 inches high by 32 or so long, made of shiny metal outside. Also, they appeared to be movable by a single individual.

Any and all threats should be taken seriously but there is a lot of assumin going on out there, I am sure appropriate measures are being taken.
