On the local news. Guarding the flags at the Navy Memorial. No video. It was like somebody complained enough that they were finally obliged to mention it.

I was wondering when FR would get mentioned. All I saw in wire reports was mention of "about 70" counterdemonstrators and a link to the northern Virginia GOP web site. I'll bet 60% of the "counters" were FReepers.

We were guarding the flags at the Navy Memorial for hours. All of us were on the sidewalk stretched out in front of the flags and fountain. Unfortunately, the other side had received a permit for the Navy Memorial (unbeknownst to us) and the police told us we would have to move to the opposite (south) side of Pennsylvania Avenue.
We left 24 volunteers to surround and guard one of the flag memorials and complied with the officer's request. Eventually, the policed deemed it too risky to leave our people there and they joined the rest of the patriotic Americans.
As the afternoon progressed and the leftist protesters wound down their pep talk rally at Freedom Plaza, contingents of motorcycle police, mounted police (the horses even had plastic visors to protect their eyes), and other groups of special police arrived to line the street on both sides.
When the parade was imminent, more police joined the line in the street separating our group from the parade route and a line of officers formed behind us as a rear guard. We felt very safe. The police and our security personnel had worked out a contingency plan for our safety in case any violence broke out between the anti-war group and members of ours. Luckily, there was no need to fall back and execute an evacuation.
The police, some of them complete with riot gear consisting of helmets and shields, told us they would protect the Navy Memorial and they did.

There were at least 80 to 100 protesters to counter the anti-war people. Many tourists joined us at various times throughout the afternoon.

Thanks for the info, Angel. The protestors rallying on cspan wanted to "honor" the dead in NY by singing kumbaya. Your work is an inspiration to us all ! Thanks for all you do.

I saw part of it on O'Reilly. It looked like some of the Commies there got a little violent. One of the cops got hit with a bat I believe.
To: quimby
They sing kumbaya, and then throw stuff and try and beat up cops...and get a professional arse kicking.

Way to go, Angelwood and DCFR!
