3 of 4 Americans Support Missile Defense, Says New Poll
CNS News ^ | 9/26/01

Reflecting the new mood among Americans since the September 11 terrorist attacks, a new poll shows that 76 percent of U.S. adults support the idea of a national missile defense, despite attempts by some Democrats in Congress to derail spending for the program. The Alexandria, Va. based research firm, Fabrizio, McLaughlin & Associates surveyed 1,000 American adults between Sept. 18 and 23 and found that more than half, 55 percent, "strongly" support the program. Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) reportedly called President Bush's request for a 57 percent increase in missile defense spending "unjustified," yet even a majority of Democrats in the poll - 57 percent - gave their overall support to missile defense. Such support for the program is growing, despite the fact that national missile defense would not have prevented the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington.

No, but it would prevent a future unforeseen attack with a missle, wouldn't it? Hoepfully some solid good can and will come out of all of this.

This is great. Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) reportedly called President Bush's request for a 57 percent increase in missile defense spending "unjustified,"

How many times do we have to hear, "the will of the people!" when they think the American people are on their side. LOL

I wasn't surprised that liberals took the occasion of the WTC tragedy to take shots at missile defense, but I was surprised that no one asked in return if the terrorist attack on America eliminated the China threat?

no one asked in return if the terrorist attack on America eliminated the China threat?

Or the North Korean threat, or the threat of a militant Islamic group taking control of Pakistan, or the threat of the Russian mafia selling goodies to Iran, Iraq, fill in the blank.

Missile defense or any defense is a no-brainer. What the antis are really supporting is our demise. They'd love it.

SHHHHHHHHHH! The NMD system is aimed at "rogue states," remember? China's arsenal doesn't even cross our mind when we think of NMD! No, not even for a moment!

You can't be too rich, too thin, or have too much defense against whatever it is that lies on the other side of those oceans

Billions for missile defense? Aren't we just building a 21st Century Maginot Line?
