Thank you for your research and for posting this. I have a feeling it will take me all day to get through this thread.
SAM, where did those painting come from?
A Japanese submarine fired 13 shells at the Bankline Refinery at Goleta in Southern California shortly after 7 p.m. One oil well was damaged. The Civilian Defense control center in San Francisco's City Hall was activiated when the news arrived from Goleta of the enemy attack. Police Chief Charles W. Dullea put all officers on standby for emergency duty.
Goleta is immediately adjacent to Santa Barbara. There are still shell remnants in that area as reminders of what happened. It was not far fetched to worry about the Japanese attacking the California shoreline. They did. :)
" The IRS has released the year 2000 data for individual income tax returns. The numbers illustrate a truth that will startle you: that half of Americans with the highest incomes pays 96.09% of all income tax. This nukes the liberal lie that the rich don't pay taxes. The top 1%, who earn 20.81% of all income covered under the income tax, are paying 37.42% of the federal tax bite. "
The top 1% pay a majority of the taxes, so LOGICALLY, they would get the largest tax break. Forty years of soaking the rich, and MIDDLE CLASS, so a large segment of the population can whine about poverty IS ENOUGH!
Not to mention: SOCIALISM ALWAYS FAILS. (tm)
"Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.
The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its Government and its Emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.
It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese Government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.
The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.
Yesterday the Japanese Government also launched an attack against Malaya. Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong. Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam. Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands. Last night the Japanese attacked Wake Island. This morning the Japanese attacked Midway Island.
Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.
Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.
Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounded determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.
I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December seventh, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese Empire."

Twentynine Palms, Calif.(Dec. 6, 2002) -- It's once again the season for giving and the Marine Corps Reserve charity, Toys for Tots, is looking for donations and volunteers.
Marines, family members and authorized personnel are welcome to volunteer aboard the Combat Center to man the request hotlines, separate the toys for each child and to help distribute the toys. Dec. 17 and 19 will be the main sorting days for the Dec. 18 and Dec. 20 toy distribution dates.
"There's a lot of mechanics to get the toys, get them sorted and get them into the hands of the children," said Staff Sgt. Darryl Elliott, Toys for Tots program coordinator, Reserve Support Unit.
Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers from the Combat Center are needed throughout the Morongo Basin and Coachella Valley to don their dress uniforms to help collect toys at more than 150 locations and to represent the Toys for Tots color guard at public events.
Patrons of the Combat Center can also give by donating their Santa Silvers to Marine Corps Community Services stores such as the Mainside and Camp Wilson Marine Corps Exchanges, 7-day-stores and the Golf Course. Last year, $8,000 in Santa Silvers was donated by MCCS to buy toys for the not-for-profit charity.
"For a lot of people, their only contact with the Marine Corps is this program," said Col. Anthony Weddington, RSU officer-in-charge. "We have a duty to be good citizens in the community we live in, and the Toys for Tots program is a good way to do that."
Toys for Tots originally began in 1947 when Marine Reserve Major Bill Hendricks' wife made a Raggedy Ann doll and asked her husband to give it to a charity for needy children. When Hendricks couldn't find a charity that catered to needy children at Christmas time, his wife told him to start one. So he did and collected 5,000 toys during the first toy drive. Noticing its success, the Marine Corps adopted the Toys for Tots program in 1948.
The Combat Center's chapter of the Toys for Tots program, administered by the RSU, collected 19,000 toys for distribution to 8,000 children in the Morongo Basin and Coachella Valley in 2001. In total, Corps wide the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program collected 13.2 million toys for six million children in 2001.
"In 52 years look what it's come from," said Weddington. "From one Raggedy Ann doll to this!"
The toy request hotline numbers are 830-7672 or 830-3803. Toy distributions will be Dec. 18 for Yucca Valley families and Dec. 20 for Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree families. Marines, family members and personnel of the Combat Center can call 830-7285 and 830-6833 to volunteer.
This is one of the better Charities, we always have a barrel for the TOYS for TOTS drive at our Amvets Christmas tree lot.
