Misty - thanks for posting the links to Veteran resource sites! There are so many organizations that provide assistance to Veterans and you've done a great job gathering the URLs and graphics!

Sometimes politicians make really stupid decisions. I'm glad that this lieutenant was able to save some of those refugees.

thanks for sharing that, HiJinx. When I first began looking for the book (my uncle asked me to find it for him) I had some trouble finding information about Operation Keelhaul. Now I see that there is a lot more information available on the net with regard to what happened. I wish all the vets knew it was there and it is being talked about. My uncle figures that no one cares, and he hates the revised histories that come out of the political arena. It's up to all of us to carry on the stories of that generation.

Thanks Jen. There are lots of fantastic resources. I hope we get the chance to review some of them one day. I think it might be good to look into some of the loopholes that are preventing some from getting what they are entitled to!

I'll have to do a thread on the Hammelberg Raid. It was a big time screw up of Patton's.

It's an interesting story, I hope I can find a concise version. Charles Whiting has an excellent book on it.

Thanks for the info links on carriers Tax.
A crewman serving aboard USS Isherwood 7th Flt Pacific in the late 50's sent a 35mm camera conversion to vhs.
some great film of DD-520 Drawing alongside USS Hancock CV-19.
Hancock is huge...the tails of jets hanging over the carriers deck way above..with onlookers filling Hancocks sponsons as Isherwood returns a downed airman to her from plane guard..
An oiler is refuleing both Hancock and Isherood at the same time in some other frames.
Midway is kinda neat..the long sandy beach with the teal and blue water..and Tin cans moored.

I wish I could be more forgiving and perhaps I would be if Japan ever offered a sincere apology.

My former father-in-law served in the Army in the Pacific theater during WWII. When he visited my ex and me in Hawaii while we were stationed there, he had a big problem with all the Japanese tourists who were visiting the same memorials we were. When he saw some Japanese men of about his same age, he wondered out loud if he had fought against them during the war.

I salute all of you who are serving or who have served our country. December 7th, 1941 was remembered in our home (didn't turn on TV much today - doubt our major news networks even made a peep about Pearl Harbor).

Thanks for taking the time to remember.

My daughter was wearing her Pearl Harbor "Pearl" at work today and had to keep telling people what it was for.
