To all who gave so much....

And when at length their course is run,
Their work for home and country done,
Of all the lost when last they sailed
Let not one soul in thee have failed;
But hear from heaven those sailor's cry,
And grant them eternal life on high!

Sixty years ago today...

790 lives lost... 98 rescued from Typhoon Cobra

My apologies for not being able to post the scrolling effects here. This message was passed on by Comwatch who some of you may remember from similar posts in the Foxhole in years past. They are doing something with the media today so I'll pass on any thoughts you might wish to share with the survivors involved in this commemoration.

Cool, for a minute there I thought you were getting an early jump on the Sunday Foxhole.

Looks like on of the jeep carriers in the picture.

An update if I may. If you visited the website about the typhoon you may have seen many references to Chuck Smith aboard the USS BROWN who rescued Evan Fenn and his six shipmates from the USS MONAGHAN. Chuck is responsible for much of the firsthand accounts that have been preserved for history's sake. We got to eavesdrop on the conference call that brought these two sailors together for the first time since December 21, 1944. It is an amazing experience only veterans can truly appreciate I think.
