Setting The Record Straight

How about that. This forum is called Free Republic. To me the definition of a free republic is where you have the freedom to express your ideas and not to be ridiculed. The question then becomes, is this forum a true Free Republic where one can express their own ideas even if same differ somewhat or is it a free republic for those with only one point of view, differences be barred from the forum. Gee, it sounds like what I left behind when I came to this country from Cuba where there was only one opinion accepted, that which followed the line of Fidel Castro. Is that what this forum truly wants to become? By the way, just for your information, yes I voted for the Libertarian Party candidate for president as a protest vote. However, and I hope many of you will read these words, the rest of the candidates who I voted for, were all REPUBLICANS. This I am sure must be a shock to some of you, but that is the reality. I specially voted for Republicans who were FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE and who are probably considered libertarians or leaning libertarian. Notice, I stated the word with a SMALL l. HOW ABOUT THAT! Locally, in my community I am involved with groups that oppose tax increases and advocate property rights. I even sat in my town's Environmental Commission. I was the only one who strongly defended property rights and free market environmentalism. Most of the other members believe in government control over property etc. I usually got into very heated discussions and referred to them as either socialists or fascists. You see, again I do not give lip service to defending capitalism and the Constitution. What I believe as outlined above, I follow through with deeds and people that really know me will attest to that and all who know me are not all libertarians. I have been to rallies that support the Bush actions in Iraq and Afghanistan> I have met some Freepers at these events and joined them in support of these actions by President Bush. By the way, even in the Libertarian Party there is a faction called FIGHT FOR LIBERTY, that supports the president's actions in both of those countries to weed out terrorists. I bet you all did not know that. Wow, I guess a number of you are quick to judge. I got news for some of you who asked me to find another forum, IT AINT GOING TO HAPPEN! Your comments about finding another forum have only served to embolden my resolve. Well, until the next thread that I post I bid you all goodnight and MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

A useful suggestion for you: observe and learn.

Spend some time reading a number of threads. You will discover that on any subject, the people here do feel free to express their opinions, and we do not feel any compulsion to agree with one another, down the line.

For your part, do not limit your passion for freedom, or your commitment to carry it out. Just develop a thick skin, because many folks here have a sharp sense of humor in responding to others. You will need to learn to dish it out and to take it with equal good humor.

Welcome to FreeRepublic.

I also voted straight Republican, with the exception of Pres. Bush of course. Only difference is that I believe the the libertarian ideal of non-intervention. So I opposed the war in Iraq, based on the reasons stated for the military action. I felt that it was unnecessary at the time. But I feel that just because I may oppose a war, it doesn't mean that I am less of a Republican. The only congresswoman to vote against entering both World War I and II was a Republican. I just feel that we should respect each other, even if we may sometimes disagree. I find it to be sad that Republicans can be so insulting towards each other. Especially the neo-cons who attack us on our own RLC board.

Sorry, this is a website, not a country.
If you don't like how you're treated, find a new website, or start your own. That simple. No infringement on rights or freedoms.

This is like coming into a bar. If you don't like the people in the bar, go to another bar. No one stops you from coming in, you just know what the rules are here.
I get beat up here as frequently as anyone, except maybe willie green. :) Like another poster said, toughen up.

This is not a land of PC where everyone should expect to have their self esteem bolstered and their views validated.

(Oh, and paragraphs are your friend).

No privately owned website is ideal in politics (that I know of). Free Republic seems like a group that's intended to quarter those whom believe in similiar ideals.

Politics isn't judicial ie it isn't intended to be fair and impartial. Once a bias is inclined it's meant to demonstrate a balance of power. One couldn't come in here and say 'the workers of the world must unite', because it would obviously destroy the balance of power that's intended. It's healthy that there are quarter for those of similiar nature. I shudder at the thought of giving fair opinion to all, in all situations and places.

So this place is our 'freedom to assembly'.

At one point there may be a place that demonstrates both a political and judicial format, but it's obviously hard since I do not recall one place that affirms that.

As in most systems, the virtual duopoly in US politics is nearly as rigid and as corrupt as a monopoly. The only thing that keeps Republicans a tad more ethical and a tad less corrupt than the Democrats is the effect of their consitutents.

The current Democratic constituency, mostly bereft of rigid and consistent ethical and moral guidance, regards behaviours and motives in the most flexible and nuanced fashion suitable for pursuing whatever ends with whatever means one can come up with.

The Republican party has a strong conservative base that doesn't tolerate corruption.

The moderates, well, they are as morally and ethically as flexible as any of the far left, since they are continually scrambling to straddle an ever changing fence.

I assume that means you only respect those who vote Republican always. Is that right?
