I attended a Southern Baptist church from 1985-1990 and have attended an Assembly of God church for the past 13 years. The praise and worship of the two are very different.

Your report sounds as if it could have come from a service in my church.

Assemblies of God definitely clap and "sway" during the 40 minute musical opening. To them, it's supposed to invite the Holy Spirit in to the gathering.

That is based on Psalms 100:4--"Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise..."

Well....I certainly enjoyed the sermon Skooz. I could have wept to be in the company of so much kindred spirit.

The music and absorption of the Holy Spirit would take a bit of getting used to for me but I plan to go back...as does my mom. My wife wants to go next time.

I was raised urban SBC(with a very intellectual pastor), and my wife thoroughly enjoys her PCA church which is very young and vibrant and Conservative but I can see us attending Cornerstone when we feel the need for something extra. And the members were completely warm and inviting to visitors genuinely so.

I love hearing a preacher unafraid to address the modern world in light of scripture. I would love to take some of my Kumbaya Dem neighbors who attend Disciples of Christ, PCUSA, and United Methodist services and tie them to the pews just to watch their heads spin when the preacher got really cranked up....lol

My apologies to concerned Catholics for inserting this sidenote into their serious thread.

So one who detests applause, and has witnessed abuse of dancing, I think some more praise and worship as a *prelude* to mass would be a good thing.

One reason that won't take off is they usually have to stack the masses very close to each other: something like 7:30, 9, 10:30, noon, 1:30 (in Espanol) and 6. The extra half hour is to clear the church and the parking lot before the next crew arrives.
