O'Malley certainly didn't do that while Bishop of Fall River. While he could have resided at the rectory of the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in downtown Fall River which would have placed him within a short stroll of the immigrant Portuguese Catholic population with which he made common cause he chose not to.
Instead, he resided at the bishop's residence in the heart of the city's highest income area the "Highlands". The residence is on Highland Avenue, a wide tree lined street of victorian homes and was enlarged significantly while O'Malley was Bishop.
He's a member of a religious community; did he have other Franciscans living with him?
There should be NO such thing as "bishop's residences" with just one bishop in them.
These guys aren't princes; they're supposed to be servants.
