My understanding is a married Deacon can never become a priest even if his wife dies,which makes sense .

There were no married deacons prior to 1976. Things change.

If I were a male and wanted to be a priest and I was married-I would not want to be the wife."I will always remain at least a deacon, if something happens to my wife".
