That's interesting. Especially since the Mississippi River doesn't sit between Texas and Louisiana, but is between Louisiana and Mississippi.

Yes you are right, that would be a long way for the river to shift course. :-) Geography was not my best course in Law School. From what I've read thoough this was a common occurance at one time between Missouri and Kansas. Apparently when Mark Twain was a riverboat captain the river changed course frequently and he discussed this problem in his book Life on the Mississippi. I don't think it is as much of a problem anymore.
