Matters of faith were already settled over the centuries...

Isn't the whole point that this matter is not settled for many (if not most) Catholics.

I return to my initial post that according to Luke in Acts, it was noble to verify the teachings of the Church leaders against the scriptures. Acts 17:11.

This is the false impression one gets from watching and listening to "Catholics" presented in the massmedia -- nothing is ever settled for them because they are carefully selected for the show from among the heathens. The true Catholics are very happy with the Church; they can be seen in the churches on Sundays or on EWTN [Eternal Word Television Network a.k.a. Mother Angelica's TV].

Agreed.
Again, all the Catholic teachings I know are based solidly in the Scriptures.
