Shirley Maclaine, Warren Beatty's sister and Rat Pack girlfriend, wrote two books on reincarnation, etc. She wrote that any child who dies "deserves" its fate because of its "bad karma from previous lives."
Although she was great in the "The Apartment," she does the devil's bidding, IMO.
All glory to God.
As an aside, the problem with self-flagellation as a means to spiritual growth is that once again it places our good standing with God in our hands and not in God's hands (salvation through works).
So while life's trials and tribulations do make us stronger for the effort we expend to surmount them in God's name, we can't say that enormous injustices are of our own making, i.e. the Jews in Nazi Germany or the blacks in the ghetto, or the starving Somalis.
Our lot in life was given to us by God, and His plan is all that matters. We will do with our lives as He sees fit.
That should give us (and Dr. Kornfeld) the strength to vanquish foes and praise His name.
I think the largest objection the Orthodox would have to it is that it defiles the body, which was created in the image of God to become the likeness of God.
