Over twenty five years of ministry I have known hundreds of people in the churches I have served that grew up Catholic. Many if not most of these were eager to be taught the Bible and were excited to serve the Lord. Off hand I can think of at least a dozen men from this group who became elders or missionaries. As to intelligence, many of these were professional people with advanced degrees.

We do not "target" Catholics or any other group. We seek to reach people around us with the gospel and then disciple them as they express an interest. They come from a wide diversity of spiritual backgrounds but almost unanimously they express appreciation for solid Bible teaching and preaching.
