By the way, I like museums, too. Before the onset of parenthood, my wife and I spent a lot of time on the Mall in DC.

Being parents never stopped my mom and dad. I was 10 (and the oldest) when we moved to the east coast for a time. We went everywhere. If mom and dad wanted to go we went. Battlefields, museums, the Capitol, West Point, among other places, and it DID instill a real love for history and learning in us. We've even talked about it, that history, for us, is alive and all the trips to the Boston area and Williamsburg and the like is what did it.

Dear Desdemona,

We still do our fair share of that sort of thing, though more and more we go to actual places where stuff happened, rather than to museums.

But parenthood means karate and swimming and tennis and piano and stuff. Lots less time to visit the elephant at the Natural History Museum, or the Burghers of Calais outside the Hirschhorn.
